Sweet Sunshine Layout by Missy Whidden

The layers, the colors, the texture, oh my! Design team member Missy Whidden never fails to WOW me when I open her emails!
Hey friends! Missy here and this week we are sharing layouts featuring something new. A few months ago I received a new WeR Memory Keepers Tab Punch. I finally opened it and put it to use! I used papers from the Oh My Heart and Take Me Away 6x6 Paper Pads and the Fancy Free 12x12 Paper Pad and punched lots of tabs. I decided to create a bunch of fun and colorful banners as a background design. Before I adhered all the tabs, I added a bit of watercolor to my white cardstock. I used blue, golden yellow, pink, and coral to pull out those colors from the papers.
Once my background was dry, I arranged all the tabs into little banners strung across the page. I added just a bit of glue to each one and then stitched through each banner to make them look a little more realistic. First I used white thread to stitch them down but it didn’t show that well. I came back over it with a blue thread and it popped off the page a little better. I love the dimension created when I ruffle up the bottoms of the tabs. Since the banners were the star of the page, I went light with embellishments. I used a few pieces from the Oh My Heart Chipboard Stickers and tucked in a few floral die cuts from the Oh My Heart Ephemera Die Cuts and Puffy Stickers. I added in a bit more texture with some tangled thread.

I decided to use a black & white photo since I used so many colors in the background. I wanted it to stand out, so I layered a few patterned papers from the Oh My Heart 6x6 Paper Pad as well as some tissue paper and adhesive foam. I think adding just a little bit of dimension really makes a difference in the final look of the layout. Plus it allows you to tuck lots of fun embellishments around the photo.

The Oh My Heart Ephemera Die Cuts pack is one of my favorites and these florals are just so pretty. They matched so well and I think they really set the photo apart from the background. I cut the yellow circle from a sheet of paper from the Fancy Free 12x12 Paper Pad and layered a few Oh My Heart Puffy Stickers on top of it. For my title, I went small and subtle and cut “Sunshine” from the Oh My Heart Specialty Paper and finished it off with some small alpha stickers from the Oh My Heart Sticker Book.

I hope this inspires you to try something new, whether it be a technique, new products or a new gadget. It’s fun to do something you’ve never done before!

Okay, now I pretty much have to get my hands on a tab punch! Think of the possibilities, not just in scrapbooking, but also mini albums, cards, planners...!!!
