The One with the First Nursery Item and Other Baby Stuff

Yesterday I was spotlighted on the American Crafts Blog and for said spotlight I was asked to create a project. Up until this Monday I was undecided about what I want the theme/colors of the nursery to be, even though I'd given it lots (and lots and lots) of thought. All I know is we're having a boy. Named Fox. For my project I wanted to make something, anything, for the nursery. I decided to make three paper globes for the ceiling. I've made these paper globe thingies plenty before in the past (like for the Amplified Patterned Paper Packs:)

But this time I wanted to make them on a large scale. I found the basic pattern on Heather Bailey's blog (search for "paper globes" on this blog: http://heatherbailey.typepad.com/), and I increased the circle template to 11", 9" and 7" (basically I created my own circle/triangle template in Adobe Illustrator and printed/cut it out). I used 20 different shades and varieties of blue American Crafts Cardstock and cut 20 circles for each paper globe. Chris was such a pal and helped me cut out, fold, and assemble all 60 circles.

The 11" template turned into a globe about 2.5 feet across. It's huge and I love it because it makes a really cool focal point in the room. I have now decided that I want to use bright and fun colors for the rest of the nursery: green, orange, yellow, maybe a dash of red, etc. Now the ideas are really flowing! It'll be interesting to see how much I have to downgrade my scrapbooking stuff to accommodate all of the furniture a baby requires...

I'm not the only one who's super excited about this coming baby. My mom, soon-to-be-first-time-grandma, has decided to dust off her sewing machine and make Fox a little quilt. She sent me a pic of the beginning stages and I love it already!

Since we found out we're having a boy, I've spent every spare minute perusing the sale section of babygap and janie & jack online. Little Fox's wardrobe is off to a good start!

Aren't these boat shoes the CUTEST?!?

I got these in the mail today from Malm. They're pretty darn cute too.

Twiddling my thumbs until October 15th....

  7. find a carter's (or their outlet) nearby. I cannot stress enough how awesome their clothes hold up. Christopher's baby clothes are still in awesome condition for Ethan, even 5 years later. Their sales are also to die for. :) I am a carter's and gap and gymboree (sale items only, LOL) snob. :)

  8. Love the little shoes!!! You will find out that they don't have as many clothes for boys as they have for girls. Whenever you see something you like or need, get it, because next time you will not be able to find it.
