The One with the Annual Evans Family Reunion Days 1 and 2

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

The entire Evans family is in town for our annual Evans family reunion! (Except Jay, who just scored a great new job and we're all super happy for him :)

Bethany and Peter rolled in Saturday morning and we had fun showing them our hood, eating lunch at El Pollo Loco, seeing The Other Guys in theaters (horrible HORRIBLE movie, I definitely do not recommend it) and getting some dessert at Yogurtland.

Sunday morning the 'rents and Nick flew in and we spent the day chillaxing, playing games, and eating home-cooked food.

Monday the festivities began. Tom, Margi, Peter, Chris, Nick, and Joey ventured up to Hollywood to hike to the sign. They made it halfway before the sun took it's toll.

Lookin' good boys!

Great view of LA.

While they were hiking, Bethany and I (the preggers girls) stayed at home and watched a live-action high speed chase going on in LA. It was the second one of the day. Apparently high speed chases are common in LA. We watched the guy zoom around the freeway and around city blocks before he gave up, pulled over, and laid down on the ground. Exciting stuff!
Andy, Cami, Drew, Avery, and my newest nephew I haven't met yet, Luke, came into town shortly after the other half of the family left for the hike. We walked to a nearby park and had fun playing on the jungle gym.
After lunch we headed to USC so the family could check out the dental school where Chris spends a lot of his time. This was also the very first time I've been to the dental school since we've lived here a year. Shame on me...

And guess what? Most of the school was blocked off because board exams were going on! Of course! So I'll have to go back soon because I really do need to see where my husband spends the other half of his life.
Cool tree on campus with gnarley roots.

Here's my niece Avery. She's such a cutie patootie.

Chris gave us the special back-lot tour of his school, including jamming us all into an elevator. Scary!
Photobucket
Whoa. That's a lot of chairs. Imagine what it looks/sounds/smells like when they're all full!
Photobucket
Here are some miniature wax carvings dental students have made. I like the little piano on the bottom shelf.
Photobucket
Across the street from the dental school is the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Movies are kind of a big deal here in LA, so this school is all fancy schmancy.
Photobucket
Steven Spielberg Building. Ever heard of him?
Photobucket
George Lucas Building. Ever heard of him?
Photobucket
We heard a bunch of commotion going on and went to see the marching band practicing on the field.
Photobucket
I don't keep up with sports, but I've heard about the big hullabaloo with Reggie Bush and wanted to see if his Heisman trophy was really gone.
Photobucket
Perhaps this is where it once stood?
I've heard of OJ Simpson!
Photobucket
Purdy flowers.
Photobucket
OMG. This picture is priceless. Chris and Luke. What are we in for?
Photobucket
More purdy flowers.
Photobucket
After touring USC we made a pit stop at Galco's Old World Grocery.
Photobucket
Grandpa Evans and Drew walking inside.
Photobucket
This store was somethin' else.
Photobucket
Sooooooooooooo many different kinds of soda.
Photobucket
Lavender flavored soda??
Photobucket
I liked looking at all the logos and branding.
Photobucket
We each picked one or two (or more) flavors and enjoyed tasting them back at home.

Today it was Disneyland day. I hesitated going in the first place because just walking around USC yesterday wore me out to no end, but I sucked it up and went for awhile. Here is some of the family riding the train to Disneyland. Why everyone who is not an Evans is looking at the camera, I may never know...
Photobucket
Here we go!
Photobucket
From left to right: Bethany (and baby!), Peter, Nick, Avery, Margi, Tom, Paige (and Fox!), Drew, Chris, Luke, Andy, Cami.
Photobucket
Bethany and I lasted about 3 hours and then called it quits. We were able to ride Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, and It's a Small World. Not too shabby! This might be the last time I get to go to Disneyland before our passes expire next month. They were super fun while they lasted! We'll prolly renew once Fox is a little older.

The fun continues tomorrow with a day at the beach and a Dodger's game at night!

  1. I was just reading about that soda store in a book about family-owned businesses. Apparently, the owner decided to start selling the unique soda when it was going to cost him more to buy Coke from the distributor than he could buy it from the nearest supermarket. It's cool to actually see pictures of it!

  4. Oh, so neato! Loved this post! Sorry you could only make it 3 hours at D-Land. I once went when I was VERY sick (I think I had mono....). I made it five hours... in a wheelchair! LOL. But I just couldn't pass it up; I love it so. :-)

Your belly photos are AWESOME! I love when I can just see a tad bit of your shoes. :-) Looks like you guys had fun with the family! And Avery totally looks like what your daughter would look like! :-)

  5. I love your one legged pregnant photo. So funny! Oh, if you like banana runts (ie-that fake banana flavor) there is a mexican soda called Bananina that that grocery store might have. It's my favorite!

  6. When I was extremely pg with Eric, I went to work wearing two different shoes. I'm wondering if that's why you took that belly shot with only one shoe showing. Confess!
