The One with the Routine

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Mr. Fox is almost 7 weeks old and I think we're finally getting into a routine *KNOCK ON WOOD*.
Here's how a typical day in my life goes:
5:00am - Fox starts crying so I wake up and feed him and my day begins (yup, I wake up at 5am. Oh but just wait, it gets better!).
5:30am - Feed the animals and straighten the house.
6:00am - Exercise while Fox is still sleeping.
7:00am - Eat breakfast, shower, take the doggie to go potty, all while Fox is still (hopefully) sleeping.
8:00am - Fox wakes up for another feeding so I do that while sitting at my computer working, checking emails, reading blogs, watching Fringe or X-Files on hulu, facebooking, and recently I've picked up tweeting (sort of). Fox is awake pretty much from now until 6pm and takes half hour naps (if you can even call them that) every now and again. During his naps I blog, put in a load of laundry, pay attention to the other pets, get some good work done, etc.
10:00am - Turn on the Price is Right.
12:00pm - Warm up a frozen Weight Watchers meal for lunch.
4:00pm - Finish working for the day and sit down with Fox and watch some tele.
5:00pm - Chris comes home and we eat dinner and then I pass Fox off to him because let's be honest, it's been a long day and my arms (and ears) are tired.
7:00pm - I go to bed. Yes, I go to bed around 7pm.
3:00am - Fox wakes up for a feeding. I'm hoping he can make it through the night without waking up soon.
5:00am - Repeat.

Being a mom is getting easier every day. At first it was like, ahhh what am I doing!:

I like routines and schedules and now I think I'm finally figuring things out. Of course, now that I've written it down it'll prolly go out the window :) But I'm working on being more flexible.

I took THE cutest pictures of Mr. Fox this morning. Check it:

My heart is full.

The One with Diamond Paintings by Ron van der Ende

Saturday, November 27, 2010

I subscribe to a blog called Artist A Day and every now and again I'm particularly drawn to one of the featured artists. Like Ron van der Ende for example. He's a sculptor living in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He specializes in wall mounted bas-reliefs constructed from found wood. These two pieces are my favorite:
Photobucket
Ron van der Ende: Flawless 2007
Bas-relief in reclaimed timbers (private collection den Haag, NL)
Photobucket
Ron van der Ende: Taylor-Burton 2009
bas-relief in salvaged wood 165 x 95 x 11cm

They really look like diamonds! It's hard to believe they're actually painted pieces of wood. See more of his work on his website.

The One with "Manhatan"

Friday, November 26, 2010

I was watching Fringe - my new favorite obsession - the other day. The show is X-Files done J.J. Abrams style (he's one of the geniuses behind LOST. What's not to love?) Whenever they're at a new location it says so. Like this:
Photobucket
Wait. Um. Hello? That's not how you spell "Manhatan." It's got two t's. MANHATTAN. How did this get through so many people? Haha. Makes me laugh. But in all seriousness, this show is siiiiiick. I'm obsessed. I can't WAIT 'til tomorrow when Mr. Mail Man brings me season 2 disc 6 via netflix. Gimme gimme gimme!

EDITED TO ADD: Looks like Manhatan was mispelled on purpose - it's an "Easter Egg" if you will: "Many people have noticed that in the opening sequence of the Fringe episode Jacksonville, the city of Manhattan is misspelled "Manhatan". Could this really be just a typo? Not a chance. This was the first hint that the opening scene started out in the alternate universe!

There are other odd things that could have been a tip-off: the strange reaction to seeing coffee (perhaps due to the "blight" mentioned in Grey Matters), and the blueprints for a "new" Pentagon.

Ted Pratchet can be seen wearing a wedding ring though out the scene, and we learn later that our Ted Pratchet was never married. And just for fun, there was even a photo of the Twin Towers on the wall of the office."

So I take it all back and love the show even more for it cuz it was on purpose!!

The One with Thanksgiving 2010

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Thanksgiving 2010 was a day to remember. It went something like this: I woke up at 5am as usual to Fox's hunger cries and fed him. Then I got ready for the day. Chris followed suit and we left the apartment around 8:30am. Luckily, before we pulled out of the parking lot Chris decided to go back inside and check that everything was locked, turned off, put away, etc. He couldn't find Rachel the cat. Turns out she was locked in the bathroom with the bird/conure/Jadis. I wonder what sort of disaster scene we would have returned home to 9 hours later had Chris not discovered Rachel. Dead cat or dead bird? I'm sooooo thankful Chris thought to check.
We arrived in Newport Beach around 9:30am and Fox met his Great Grandpa John and Great Uncle David for the first time.
Fox and Great Grandpa John Taylor. I love how they are looking at each other. So tender.

Then he met Great Grandma Cathie, Great Uncle John, Great Aunt Natalie, Second Cousin Cat, Second Cousin Daniel, Great Aunt Anissa, Second Cousin Benj, and Second Cousin Leah. Whew! Lots of family! And my own dad still hasn't met his first grandson - to be remedied next weekend.
Cat and Fox. We like animal names for our children :)

A bunch of us decided to go for a walk down to the beach.

This year I am most grateful, pretty obviously, for my son, Fox Thomas Evans.

The One with Fall-ish Inspiration

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

All of these things inspire me to no end! I want to make them, buy them, hang them, wear them, travel to them, stare at them, etc. You'll see. And they're all fall-themed. Ish.

Fantastic Little Fox Coat from the etsy shop Little Goodall. Maybe a little too girly for Fox? But super cute nonetheless.

Photobucket
Beautiful holiday pins by Laurie Cinatto. I think they could be worn at Thanksgiving OR Christmas.
Photobucket
The work of Dutch artist Anouk Kruithof. These stacked books are totally fall colors.

Wherever this house is, I want to go there. It looks like it's fall there. Maybe?
Photobucket
I want to go to this house (or rather, mansion) too. With or without the balloons! But preferably with.
Photobucket
Pine cone turkey place card holders from etsy but I searched high and low and couldn't find them again! Drat.
Photobucket
People come up with the neatest things!

Spray painting pine cones?!? Genius. Such a fun way to make lemonade out of lemons.

Maybe a tad late for this idea, but certainly saved in the Halloween folder for next year. Love these modernly painted pumpkins. Found via Design Crush.
Photobucket
And these puffy painted pumpkins are from Young House Love.
Photobucket
Pumpkin pancakes stuffed inside pumpkins!? Mmmmm! Found via DesignSponge.

The most beautiful collection of leaves I've ever seen. Do you think this has been photoshopped to make the colors brighter? I hope not!
