The One with Hair Adventures

Pretty sure I just stole this blog post title from Marlene :)
I need to change my hair. It's gotten to that point where I'm sick of seeing myself in the mirror every morning and I have two styles: Up or Down. I don't know how to French braid, I don't like headbands cuz they give me headaches, I'm plain Jane when it comes to my hair. So now the question is: what to do with it? I've seen lots of peeps putting it out their on their own blogs and asking for opinions and feedback, so I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a whirl. Oh dear blogosphere, please help me out!
The story of my hair is a long and adventurous one. Hence the title. Here it 'tis:
I was born with black curly hair. It doesn't look very curly in this picture... but that's what my Malm always tells me so I believe her.
Photobucket
Then my hair went straight and living in California I was outside in the sun a lot so it got naturally blonde.
Photobucket
And don't forget the bangs. Not that one could ever forget THESE bangs. Dangs.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Sometimes my mom would spend hours putting braids in my hair when it was wet after a bath and then the next morning we'd take them out and I'd look like Mufasa from the Lion King.
Photobucket
When I was 12 or 13 or so is when I actually started caring what I looked like and I was going through puberty and my hair turned curly (just like my dad's did when he was 13 - hormones I guess) and I didn't know how to deal with it so I wore it in a pony tail every. single. day. Oh, and I still had bangs. I don't have any pictures of this phase. Or maybe I do and I'm just too embarrassed to show them. In 8th grade is when I discovered SUN IN.
Photobucket
From then on until I was 20 years old I had blonde hair in various shades, lengths, and styles.
Super blonde. Medium length. Straightened.
Photobucket
Super blonde. Long. Straightened.
Photobucket
Blonde. Long. Straightened.

Blonde. Long. Naturally curly.
Photobucket
Blonde. Super long. Naturally curly in a ponytail.

Blonde. Long. Curled with a curling iron.

Then when I was 20 I went dark. And I've been dark ever since.
Reddish. Medium length. Curled with a curling iron.
Photobucket
Dark brown. Medium length. Curled with a curling iron.

And then I added a silly streak of blonde hair:

And then in 2008 I CHOPPED IT OFF.

By the way, if you're wondering what my hair looks like with no product in it and air drying, lo and behold:
Photobucket
YIKES!

This is what my hair looks like currently: long (probably the longest it's ever been - it only took two years from when I chopped it to get to this length. I think it grew over a foot during my pregnancy!), naturally curly, and it's natural ashy grey brown color. I wear it in a ponytail nearly every day for the sake of convenience so Fox doesn't grab it and I simply don't know how or what else to do with it.
Photobucket
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Long or short?
Curly or straight?
Blonde, reddish, brown, dark brown, extreme highlights, lots of different colors of highlights, natural?
Your help is much appreciated :)

  1. I have to say:

    you are totally adorable!!!

    and brave for posting!!! LOL.

I'm not going to be much help here...

having straight hair makes me LOVE curly hair long-ish...My daughter has in between hair and I find it more controllable when it's long though it's more time consuming to straighten!

Or you can do like I did...I had really really long hair and cut it short all in one shot. I was so scared because I didn't know if I'd ever get used to it...

    I did...and I LOVE it!!!

    so...while I don't think I was much help:

    you're a cutie...so long/short, it doesn't really matter. LOL!!

  2. Hi Paige! I've been reading your blog since a little bit before Fox was born. Love following along! Just as sort of a warning... All that glorious hair that grew while you were pregnant... will start to fall out around when Fox turns 4 months old. I have a almost-2 year old and I ended up cutting my hair short. And then all the hair that fell out will start to grow back so you end up looking very "sprouty". This is just one of those things you don't think about or hear about until it starts happening to you :). I told all my friend who got pregnant after me and warned them. Thought I would pass that along. Good luck with the hair decisions!

  3. I'm kinda feeling the blonde thing again! Maybe highlights so there is still a little dark in there? I like your hair longer for sure and naturally curly. (plus I know how much more convenient curly hair is :) straightening is such a pain! haha) but either way you are BEAUTIFUL!

  4. The pic prior to your blonde streak is my favorite - birthday pic, right? Anyway, you clearly like it long so I vote that you chop a few inches off to help it feel new. Good luck!

  11. You are way braver than I am. I would never post pictures of the life of my hair. Granted, my hair looks horrible in about 80% of my pictures. Especially if they are from 2000 or earlier.

I love your hair curly and the reddish dark brown, but I would also suggest to just do whatever would both a) feel like enough of a change and b) be relatively low maintenance.

  12. Ok, I may be biased, but I love me some beautiful brunette hair! My favorite hands down is the reddish brown where you are wearing a pink Abercrombie shirt. Your hair is such a beautiful color, really shiny, and it looks great with your skin. That's my pick!

It's true about your hair falling out, prepare yourself :o)

  14. OK, after looking at all your pictures ( and you are adorable no matter what you do, I thin you could shave your head and till be pretty! ) the one look that I think was outstanding was your brown hair with highlights and curly or straight!!

  15. It looks good all the different colors and cuts! I like the dark reddish brown and long and curlyish. Like the 8th and 9th pic from the bottom.

  17. First, nothing to do with hair... a little foxness that I found super cute!http://www.creaturecomfortsblog.com/home/2010/12/21/inspiration-daily-12-21-10.html

As for the hair, you need something that is quick to do. I'd like to place a vote for the short do. I enjoy it, it looks a lot less heavy, more wash and wear. I suggest leaving it naturally curly, that way you have the option to take a bit more time on yourself somedays when you have extra time (what's that?) and can straighten it still. Then as far as colour goes, I personally like the dark hair better on you. But it's more what makes you feel the best!

  18. You are super cute with all hair but you asked so my favorites are all blonde and straight. :) Your natural curl is really pretty though, so you can do that too.

  19. you are SO lucky to have hair that is so versatile and looks so good in so many darn ways!!! :)
i LOVE it [super] long and blonde with you natural curl in it. straight is very pretty, too, but that is so much work. natural is faster! ;)
you'll look great no matter what you choose!
    how about pink?! hehe!

  21. Although you look great long with curls and natural... lucky you! I am a short hair lover so I am sure you would look great in short hair too!

  22. You are so cute and I love your cute blog...I like your hair blonde, straight and long. I love all the fun pictures you put up of you growing up...such a cute idea!

  23. Haha I bet I can beat you on "scary" for hair that is air dried and has no product in it! I pretty much straighten my hair all the time now and when it is curly, it's back in a braid or bun because it's so crazy!!

I think you look very exotic looking with darker hair...something I could never get away with, otherwise I'd look gothic! Haha! Maybe a reddish brown? My aunt always died her hair reddish brown and I always thought it was so beautiful!
And if you want to keep wearing it curly....I say keep it longer, or anywhere below the shoulders, just to keep it under control. I will NEVER cut my hair super short again....not with this curly mop on my head! Ahh!

Oh and what someone else said about your hair falling out soon....yea it's going to happen. You're going to think you're going bald and will most likely clog the drain of the shower. It will continue to fall out for about a month or 2 and afterwards your hair will feel so thin! I loved my hair feeling thin for once! Haha!
But then it grows back....and that is the worst thing ever! You'll have little pieces of hair sticking out all over the place. At least with curly hair, they'll kinda blend in...when you straighten in, they stick up like one of those treasure trolls! Eeeek! My new growths have finally gotten long enough where they don't stick out all over, but of course I'm about to have another baby and start all over with the troll hair! But it's all worth it!

    Good luck!

  24. U look georgous with all your hairstyles!!I have exactly the same problem of deciding what to do with my hair except my hair is auburn and almost down to my bum! - mine goes wavy if i dont straighten it and I am thinking about keeping my locks but going a bit on the honey blonde side of things to sort of go for that summer glow look... but as for styles I dont know either! LOL
Good luck on deciding what to do! Keep us posted!

  25. I like reddish dark brown and naturally curly the best! Long or medium! I love that you posted a pic of your hair not styled or with any product...mine would prob be about the same. :)

  26. long, blonde and straight looks fabulous.

  27. I like it dark brown maybe with some red in it would look awesome! I do love your curly hair! Maybe cut just below your shoulders. Cause then you can still do it up or down. ;) One of my new years resolutions is to do my hair different once a month. HA! :)

  28. love the blonde.. love the curls :) but make sure it's easy whatever you do!

  29. My vote is for long (maybe trim it a little now) and blonde.

  30. I am SO ready for a change too! I was hoping it would grow while pregnant, but no such luck! My hair story is about the same! I about freaked when it went super curly during puberty! I would put large rollers in it at night and sleep in them, talk about uncomfortable! Then in the morning I would lay my head on the ironing board and my mom would try to iron the frizz and body out. I also used baby oil to control the frizz. Ugh it was a nightmare! And even aftera ll that work I still wore it in a ponytail! I did it from 7th grade until sophmore year when I boy I liked told me I should wear it curly. And I did for several years and it got LONG! Then thank heavens good products and flat irons came out! To this day I prefer it straight because I can go a week with out washing it. My hair is SO dry. But my curls arent as pretty as yours. Have you heard of the brazilian blow out or the frizz control treatments!? I want to at least try the frizz control treatment because it supposidly makes your natural curls soft and frizz free! And your hair can air dry with out product! I like your hair dark and just below the shoulder. with maybe some red highlights or something...

  31. As a mom who is just coming out of this dilemma, I understand the frustrations of blah hair. So, my advice is to keep it simple. Go a shade lighter, since you live mostly in warm weather, and keep the cut simple so that you can go long periods without a trim. I cut my hair before the boy was born, and it was another 10 months before it was cut again. Then I got bangs, which I love, but now I find them more of a nuisance because of morning sickness. So, keep it simple. You look gorgeous in every style!

  32. You are soooo stinkin cute! I actually love the pic with the blong steak in it, and the one right above it. I think maybe trim a bit off but keep it long, you are naturally beautiful so keep it framing your face. You can pull anything off so just remember to have fun with it.

  33. If I had to pick something I would do either all blonde or highlights.

    You hair is gorgeous!

  34. I loved looking at all these photos of you in order like that! You are so pretty and so is your hair!!

I think I love it long the best and lighter...you don't have to go all out blonde but just lighter and softer. Can't wait to see what you do!
