The One with California Adventure

I know I know. Enough with the Disneyland posts. Sorry Charlie. But at least most of today's pics are from California Adventure instead of Disneyland.

California Adventure opened at 10am and we were so there at 10am.

We headed straight to Fisherman's Warf to get a free tortilla from the Mission Tortilla Factory but it wasn't opened yet so we took a spin on the ferris wheel.
Photobucket
There is construction ALL OVER California Adventure. They work on things during the "off season" so everything is spick and span during the high volume summer season.
Photobucket
Most importantly, they're working hard on Cars Land - to open 2012 so we'll have about a year to enjoy it. We've got to get Fox into that show fo sho!

These are some signs that were on the wall blocking off the area. I'm intrigued!

Can't wait!

Fox sittin' on Daddy's lap in the ferris wheel. Ahhhh he's so cute to me!

We have yet to watch the World of Color water and light show, but we hear it's pretty spectacular. It must be, look at all schtuff in the water!

We went back to the tortilla place but it still wasn't opened so we took a tour through the sourdough factory instead. Apparently they're still using a piece of the "mother dough" in their recipe. I googled it and it says "The Boudin Bakery in San Francisco has produced sourdough bread for over 150 years. The 'mother dough' was developed by French baker Isidore Boudin in 1849. The bacteria found in the mother dough is unique to San Francisco and has the scientific designation lactobacillus sanfrancisco. The bread's only ingredients are: unbleached flour, water, salt, and a portion of the mother dough." And then Chris went off about how lactobacillus is one of two main bacterias that cause cavities and I sort of fell asleep a little... :)

Boudin Sourdough Bread Bowls are fiercely delicious. Here they are in progress:

Roar!

I love this pic, it's like I Spy. I spy a seagull. I spy a grizzly bear head.

All of the fences blocking the construction are entertaining to look at. This is what my family would call a Ted Warner size bowl of ice cream:

Vintage Mickey.

There's not much you can ride with an infant at California Adventure so we ventured over to Disneyland. Our plan of action: get over to the Tom Sawyer Island since we've never ever been there.
Photobucket
But first, a pit stop to try a Dole's Pineapple Whip Float since we've never ever had one before and we keep hearing they're off the chain.
Photobucket
Then we got onto the raft that sails over to Tom Sawyer Island and chatted a little bit with the Cast Member who was manning it and we asked how long she'd worked at D-land. 13 years. We asked if the raft was on a track or if she was driving it herself. Driving it herself (impressive!). We asked what the best job at Disneyland is and she said what she was doing. I asked if she had to say that. No response. Chris said he thinks he'd like to be a Jungle Cruise tour guide and she said something along the lines of, "Yeah, if talking non-stop all day saying the same thing over and over to strangers is your thing..." Crickets chirping... Little miss anti-social Cast Member, ha!

We had to wait for the Columbia ship to pass by before we could sail over to the island. (Side note, every time I hear or say "the island" I ALWAYS think of LOST.)
Photobucket
Photobucket
The ship made really pretty reflections in the water.
Photobucket
Photobucket
The island was a fun adventure with the crazy bridges, pathways, tree-houses, and more.
Photobucket
If you push a wheel a treasure chest is lifted out of the water. I seriously shrieked out loud when I saw what was attached to it!
Photobucket
Isn't that a little graphic for little kids!?! Haha.

My cute li'l pirate.
Photobucket
It was super duper pooper packed (what were we thinking going on a holiday?) so we headed out after only a couple hours.

Instead of going straight home we attempted to go to a burger joint Chris had seen on Man v. Food called Slater's 50/50.

I'm always up for a delicious burger! We got there at about 1pm and the wait was 45 minutes - it must be good! We weren't up for waiting though so we decided to come back another time.

Fun day!

  10. I work at a probiotics manufacturer so the second I read "lactobacillus is one of two main bacterias that cause cavities" I jumped up to ask our microbiiologist and he said "actually it is streptococcus, but that may be what they tell the dental schools." You should ask Chris if the other bacteria is two of the strains of streptoccocus :) Funny words :)

  11. When the caries is confined to the enamel, the predominate pathogenic bacteria is strep mutans, but when the caries progresses to the dentin, the predominant species are both lactobacillus and strep mutans. That's pretty much universally accepted.
