First thing on the agenda for Day 4 of the reunion: hike Mt. Royal.
Our goal: to reach Masontown: an old mining town that's now in ruins about a mile up the mountain.
What a ham. I'm surprised Fox liked being carried in this as much as he did cuz he hasn't been in one since he was only a few months old!
Cute squirrels!
We reached Masontown after not too bad a hike (everything is easy compared to that Napali Coast hike!) and we loved finding the bits and pieces that were once part of a thriving mine.
Dalalalald - what are this strips of rusted metal??
I wonder what this was a part of?
And these?
A red brick road. "Follow follow follow follow follow the reeeed brick road!" Or something...
I'd love to see what this place looked like at the prime of its existence.
Bella Boo! She's the cutest poodle in the world.
Fox's nap schedule was all over the place this week and he fell asleep at the weirdest times in the weirdest situations. Like so.
Jumping attempt #148593753
Gnarly tree.
A beautiful view of Frisco from atop the mountain.
I call this STACKED LOGS.
Fun easy breezy of a hike! Chris didn't even complain once, and that's sayin' something :)
Side note: Fox and Evelynd egg each other on.
When one starts crying, so does the other, as evidenced by this short clip:
Mommies to the rescue!
In the afternoon we drove over to a recreation center where everyone played in the pools and slid down the slides while I paid the big bucks to use the internet and catch up on my correspondence.
Fox loves being in the pool!
We made pulled pork sandwiches for dinner then we walked down to see a concert in the park.
We saw this pretty mine cart filled with flowers on our way to the show.
The venue.
Nana dancing with the kids.
Straight out of the camera. My beautiful baby boy.
This lady seriously had the biggest dog I have ever laid eyes on. WOW!
We enjoyed a leisurely walk back to the cabin and caught a glimpse of the sun setting through the trees.
We got baby Evelynd to smile! She's such a doll.
I love these wildflowers outside the cabin.
Early in the evening Nick got a call saying his mission call had arrived at the house. So Tom and Nick drove all the way back to Denver, grabbed the envelope, then came back to the cabin so he could open it in front of the entire family. Nick is going to serve a mission in.... drum roll please..... Leon Mexico!!! He leaves December 28th of this year so he'll be home from Christmas!
Congrats Nick, we're all so proud of you!
Another fun-filled day with the Evans family!
Congrats, Nick!
ReplyDeleteBella is the cutest dog ever. Not just poodle!
ReplyDeleteand look at my strangely posed hands in the family picture. What?!?!
ReplyDeleteWow you took some really awesome picures! haha Fox really is a ham. And I'm proud of you for going on another hike after that one in Hawaii :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a wonderful time! That dog is seriously huge. It looks bigger than the lady next to it. Fox is quite the seasoned traveler for being so young :D Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog today.
ReplyDeleteOMGEE! That dog is huge!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had such a great time at the Evans family reunion. I love the video of Fox crying. How cool that you got to be there when Nick opened his mission call. Congrats to him! Another great missionary on his way to Mexico!
