As I mentioned yesterday, after The Getty we went to Fat Sal's for lunch. I'm pretty sure I'm never going to eat anything ever again because nothing will ever compare to or taste as good as the sandwich I got. Kid you not, hands down, this was by far the most delicious, delectable, tastiest, yummy thing I have ever eaten in my life! If you're ever even anywhere near LA, you better go or else...
Fat Sal's is in the heart of UCLA. We almost got beat up cuz our license plate says USC... oopsies. We miraculously found a metered parking spot and then walked up the street to our final destination. The ghettoer looking the place, the better the food is and Fat Sal's sure didn't disappoint!
After taking a quick gander at the massive menu (we've been preparing and pondering our choices for weeks :),
I settled on the Fat Texas BBQ:
Yeah, you read that right: bbq pastrami brisket with chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, bacon, sautéed onions, melted cheddar & mozzarella, fries, mayo, honey bbq sauce, on a garlic hero. And no the chicken fingers and fries aren't on the side - they're IN the sandwich! Oh yeah!
Chris placed our order and the waiting game began. My only complaint is how long it took - but I guess perfection can take as long as it wants :)
A pic of the chefs and owner.
Up for the challenge? Not today - maybe next time :)
Makin' our grub.
At last our lunch was ready. I think this thing weighed 2 pounds.
I unwrapped the honker and saw this:
And then I took my first bite and just about floated into the air.
A ginormous slice of heaven on earth.
Fox slept through the entire experience.
I'm pretty sure this won't be the last time we visit Fat Sal's. In fact, it's only like 5 minutes from the LA temple so I'm thinking every time we do a session we'll have to eat here afterwards. Done and done.
PS - check out the awesome movie theater right behind Fat Sal's!
Fox Theater!
Hehe.
:) I'll have to see if my SOCAL brother has ever eaten here. Glad you enjoyed it!! Looks yummy! :)
ReplyDeleteA-ma-za-zing! You're welcome for finding it! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd for those of you who are dying to know what I got, I had the Fat Jerry: a cheesesteak sandwich topped with chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, fries, fried eggs, salt, pepper, ketchup and mayo.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so disgusting and a heart attack just waiting to happen in my belly... but at the same time, why do I want to try it so badly? Did you guys go to Diddy's Reese while there? It's all so close to each other - how do you decide where to go after the Temple? All of the above? ps you guys NEED to try Cha-Cha Chicken near Ocean by Santa Monica before you leave California.
ReplyDeleteand probably Bay Cities Deli.
ReplyDeleteand I think we should go celebrity stalking on Robertson once before we leave California.
maybe I'll start a bucket list of things to do before I leave!
after you go to the temple and go to fat sals you should hit diddy riese for dessert. because, you know, you probably need to add another 500 calories to your gigantic meal :) westwood is the bomb for food.
ReplyDeleteI'm so curious how much the sandwich cost... I tried looking closer at the menu board but couldn't tell! Do you mind?
ReplyDeleteIt was $7.95 per sandwich - not too bad for around here and especially for the amount of food! We were both only able to eat half there and saved the rest for later!
ReplyDeleteOh my gracious. That looks disgusting! Did you feel your arteries hardening as you ate? Peter thinks it looks delicious, though.
ReplyDeleteMY MOUTH IS WATERING now thank you very much! WOW! YUMMO! I am definitely going there if I'm ever in or near LA!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the fun detailed photographs too. Can't wait to see the layout you create with it all! xx
Loves,
K
OK, I think I gained 5lbs just looking at the picture of that sandwich, lol...how in the world do you stay so tiny eating things like that? lol
ReplyDeleteMmm, my mouth is watering! I want some Fat Sal's! 2 lbs.? I too would love to know how you can stay so tiny... not fair! All I need to do is smell it and that 2 lbs. would attach to my hips, lol!
