We crossed another bucket item off my 27 before 27 list today: see a horse race at the Santa Anita Race Track.
At first our main intent and purpose was to visit the Food Truck Festival. We've become quite the food connoisseurs as of late.
There were like 100 food trucks from all over Southern California.
They were all gathered in the middle of the horse race track.
We meandered around and I stopped to take a picture of practically every truck (much to Chris and Fox's chagrin).
I love the names some of these trucks have such as Da Burger Boss, Flying Pig, Masters of Sustainable Seafood, Flat Iron, Truck Norris, India Jones, Baby's Bada** Burgers, Shrimp Pimp, Ragin Cajun, etc. I'm sure any and all of these trucks have websites and twitters and facebook pages. Who doesn't these days right? :)
The Grilled Cheese Truck was by far the most popular truck. The line was soooo long!
Yes, I can say from past experience, they are that amazing and worth the wait. They must be laced with somethin'.
We settled on a Hawaiian BBQ place and I'll be honest, it definitely wasn't worth $9 a pop! But the experience in and of itself was priceless so I'm not complaining one bit more.
A race was starting at 1pm and since it was on my list of 27 things to do before I turn 27, we stuck around. I know absolutely zip, zilch, nada, about horse racing and betting and all it entails. So yes, I do need help picking winners!
People are really into this stuff! I had no idea!
We made our way up to the bleachers and scoped out a good spot.
I love the way some people were dressed up in top hats, feathers, vintage dresses, and all!
I tried to get a decent family photo, but SOMEONE who shall remain nameless was being a little booger :)
At 1pm sharp the race began! How exciting!
We stayed for one more race. This time they carted the contraption where the horses start from to the front and put it on the grass track. I'm sure my terminology is so off. Margi, I could use your help!
Mr. Fox just being cute.
Go go go!
Once upon a time Seabiscuit raced at this track so now there's a statue of him.
My wish was fulfilled and we said our goodbyes.
We had a grand ol' time at the Santa Anita Race Track!
Hey, that looks like a fun day! So exciting that you got to have such a great experience crossed off your list.....and I still think you three take a great family photo! :)
ReplyDeleteTruck Norris is my favorite name. And that was a pretty fun outing to squeeze in between conference sessions!
ReplyDeleteNice photos Paige, thanks for sharing... also, I just noticed on the Studio Calico blog that you won layout of the week, Congrats!! your page is awesome, love the Chevron, very cool :)
ReplyDeleteThe Shrimp Pimp is definetly my favorite name and I really can't believe they lined up THAT long for grilled cheese!
ReplyDeleteWhat the hey?
ReplyDeleteDid you win anything at the horserace?
You can't leave me hangin' here...
They are called "Starting Gates." Love you. Mom
ReplyDeletethe food truck festival sounds so incredibly amazing! and all those family portraits are just too cute!!
ReplyDeleteHey Shaunte - we didn't bet :) We just went to observe! and eat!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks like fun!! I can't believe there were that many trucks there...so very cool!!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I love going to gourmet food trucks...our family doesn't get why we voluntarily eat at roach coaches...they have no clue. Our fave truck is the Lime truck but now they're famous due to winning first place on the great food truck race on the Food network and their lines are waaay too long now. I want to try more LA trucks since we live in OC. Looks like the race track would be the place to try them. Did you have to wait long?
