The Loire Valley is halfway between Marseille and Paris and has some amazing castles like Chenonceau and Chambord. There's also a lot of other awesome stuff near Marseille in cities like Nice and Arles.

I would love to visit Poland, since Brian's family is Polish! :)

ReplyDeleteOkay, I am right there with you! BUT if you do go to Norway, you have to go to Stokke!! That's where you can find pretty much all of my family history, church buildings, roads, bridges named after my family ;)

ReplyDeleteWith Ukraine, I would definitely suggest going to Lviv. It's considered one of the coolest cities in the world and it's my absolute favorite.

Germany: Hamburg, Bremen, Lübeck, Hameln, Münster and especially Dresden (!!!) and Nuremberg again during christmastime to visit the christkindlsmarkt.
I think, it is awesome, that you are so curious and open-minded.
It is really interesting and touching to see our country through your eyes.

ReplyDeleteGreat list:) I live in the UK and if your planning on coming up north I'd say pop by Sheffield (my home town) for a day (or two), especially if you like the countryside; we have more trees than people(!) mainly due to a 1/3 of the city being in the Peak District.
ReplyDeleteTry to get to Santorini (it's a greek island) it is gorgeous and what I think of as Greece - white buildings with brilliant blue rooftops!

ReplyDeleteI live in England so am a bit biased! I went to uni in Cambridge...absolutely beautiful city...you need to go punting there! I live in Surrey and there are some beautiful quintessential English villages all around...definitely worth a look :) if you need any help with a trip to England, let me know!

ReplyDeleteIf your going to Scandinavia, I totally recommend going over to Helsinki in Finland. Its so beautiful, and just a quick ferry from Stockholm! When you to Austria, go via Garmisch-Partenkirchen near the Zugspitze (the highest alp in Germany). Its such a beautiful town! http://www.gapa.de/_Garmisch_Partenkirchen_Portrait_of_the_Town. I think another town you would be interested in is Oberammergau. This town is famous for its production of a passion play. The next play isn't until 2020, but the town itself is really cool and full of history and the buildings are really amazing. ReplyDeleteIf you're going all the way to Loch Ness in Scotland, and the weather's decent, I'd recommend going to the Isle of Skye as well; gorgeous landscape.

ReplyDeleteGreat list!!! I have been living in Europe for 17 years and you have a great list. I would only say that Manchester and Liverpool are not that great though! Brighton, Bristol, York are much better
ReplyDeleteHowever, with small kids it's good to come to the Winnie the Pooh country around Kent. You can go to the original pooh sticks bridge and throw sticks, there is a Winnie the Pooh shop who had out leaflets where you can see all the Winnie the Pooh stuff. My kids are huge WP fans so they love it!

There are so many places to visit! Come and visit Brighton, it's lovely here and you can easily get to the Winnie the Pooh area that Scrappin' Siggy mentioned - it's actually in East Sussex more than Kent and like I said not too far from Brighton. Brighton has a beautiful beach, gorgeous lanes full of shops, the Pavillion which is stunning and is surrounded by the beautiful British countryside. If you need any help with any of it or tips just give me a shout :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of places - You are going to spend a lot of time on our motorways! I notice many of them are cities; the countryside might be more restful for you travelling as a family. Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are all great cities, but I recommend spending more time in the National Parks around them. I appreicate that the distances in Britain are nothing compared to the USA but Loch Ness is quite a long way from Edinburgh...Both are worth a visit - make sure you avoid the midge season! Try to avoid UK school holidays too - we have them spread out over the year rather than three months in the summer. Happy travels!
Ok...here are my thoughts.
ReplyDelete1) If you go to Italy you must go to the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento is amazing. Plus it's near Pompeii so you can stay in Sorrento and take the train to Pompeii. Obviously Venice too but I think you have been there before, no?
2) THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! Dublin and Belfast are my 2 LEAST favorite places in Ireland. Obviously EVERYWHERE in Ireland is better than anywhere else in the world, INHO, but seriously, if you take the time to go to Ireland and you don't have much time to spend there, contact me. I've been most places and can direct you in the right direction (Cheshire cat joke) Dublin is cool to see if you've never been. I know a really good fish and chips place there, but Belfast isn't very impressive. It's just a lot of industrial shipping and docks and stuff. There is a ton of amazing stuff to see within driving distance of Belfast though. Portrush and pretty much anywhere on the Antrim coast is amazing. Just contact me before you go. Seriously. It's the best place on earth. My favorite place ever.
Oh and Istanbul is amazing. Such good food. I can't wait for all your travel adventures! Also, you can look on my blog in the Ireland, Scotland and Istanbul sections to see if anything I did would interest you. Sorry to be so blah, blah, blah about it all, I'm just so excited for you! ReplyDeleteIf you want to visit France, there are a lot of beautiful cities and areas to visit.
ReplyDeleteParis of course, Marseille is ok but Nice is better on the french riviera (and i live in Nice ^^) and Monaco of course, Biarritz and the Pays Basque (in the south west of France near Spain) is wonderful too and also the castles in Loire valley.
In Spain, Barcelona is amazing.
In UK, you have to go to London in christmas time ;)
In Belgium, you'll like Brussels and Bruges, but also the beaches (you may continue until Le Touquet beach in the North of France).
