True story - when I was young I watched The Sound of Music and I thought it was boooooooring. Sure, the songs were catchy, but I just didn't "get it". I thought it was long and didn't understand anything.
Fast forward to when I'm in my late 20s and now it's one of my FAVORITE movies! It's a love story! One of the best! I love the music! I love the chemistry between Fräulein Maria and Captain Von Trapp! I love the setting! I love the fashion! I love the story! I love the history! I love it I love it I love it!
One of my favorite lines: "My children have been running around the streets of Salzburg wearing DRAPES?!"
Basically, I am so super excited to go to Salzburg in a couple weeks and go on the Sound of Music Tour. You can bet your bottom dollar I'll be singing at the top of my lungs on the top of a mountain!
Ohhhhhhhh you are SO LUCKY!!!! My in-laws bought me the 45th anniversary box set for Christmas a couple of years ago -- and then when they re-released it in the theaters ... I was so there! LOVE.THAT.MOVIE.
ReplyDeleteMust see photo of you twirling as the hills come alive...
ReplyDeletehow totally fun--I agree this is one of my FAVORITE movies!!
ReplyDeleteHi Paige, I'm the AF girl in Hungary. Like you, I ADORE The Sound of Music and it was my #1 bucket list item of all time. We went to Salzburg in July and immediately signed up for the tour. Please please PLEASE do not think I'm trying to burst your bubble because I promise I am not. I don't recommend the tour 1. It's really expensive--about $40 per person 2. They really rush you through the sights--four hour tour with half of it driving. I recommend since you're driving do it on your own. You'll be able to spend more time at the gazebo, the house grounds, and the incredible chapel--which is about 30 minutes outside of Salzburg in Mondsee. We had about an hour in Mondsee when I could have easily spent several hours because the town was beautiful and had much more to offer than just the cathedral. Again, just another opinion, especially with two littles. They will get antsy in the bus and with being corralled and shuffled around so much. My 7 year old was a good sport but being around so many other people shoving and pushing to get photos in time before meeting the bus time, was too much. But, I would go back in a hot second. It was beautiful and just a dream come true. For you since you do such extensive research you'll know all the tidbits they give on the tour anyway. Also, hit the Eagle's Nest on the way--spectacular views! mommajaehn@gmail dot com

Sounds like me sort of! I had never seen the movie until last December when it first came out on TV by Carrie Underwood. I saw that and immediately had to see the movie. WOW! Definitely one of my favorite movies now and I have watched it multiple times since then. I can't believe that I went 27 years without seeing it. Have fun!!!
ReplyDeletewhen we went I went to Utah with your family we went and saw it live at that outdoor theater! remember that? so much fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI am excited for you about Salzburg!!!! You must do a little video singing "The hills are alive..."!
ReplyDeleteI totally love this classic! Enjoy it all!
ReplyDeleteHa! You're funny :) I'm looking forward to our trip as well!
ReplyDeleteTom and I went on that tour when we were in Salzburg and had a great time! Then you got to go into the gazebo and jump from bench to bench but I heard someone got hurt so they don't let you in it anymore...Yes, I was one of the ones jumping from bench to bench. We were there during the music festival and loved listening to all the mozart concerts!
