The One with Studio Calico THE UNDERGROUND Layouts!

THE UNDERGROUND kits are now available for subscribers at Studio Calico!

Once I started I couldn't stop and I made FIVE (5!) layouts with THE UNDERGROUND scrapbook kits (THE UNDERGROUNDPICADILLYNOTTING HILL, and KING'S CROSS). So so so much good stuff in these kits. And they all go together like peanut butter and jelly. Like I said in my sneaks post, I pretty much used all of my product and I still have a layout with how-to video to create for next week, so it'll be a fun challenge to see how I can use up my scraps and officially "kill" these kits :) Alrighty, enough jibber jabber, here's what I made, in the order they were created:

DESCRIPTION: Recently I was asked to showcase a digital element on one of my layouts every month, and since I pretty much do that for 75% of my layouts anyway, it's a win win kinda situation :) For this layout I turned the circle from the Project Life digital stamps into a cut file. Also, I wasn't sent the wood veneer alphas in the main scrapbook kit, so I had to get creative with my titles for my two main kit layouts. And turned more digital stamps into cut files and used printables.

JOURNALING SAYS: This girl is the definition of Terrible Twos :) but she's oh so darling! She has a great vocabulary and can say what she needs and wants to say to get what she wants. She's always up to mischief and follows Fox around 24/7. She even prefers his toys over dolls. She loves to read and draw.

HOW TO: Turn the circle ring from The Underground Project Life digital stamp into a cut file:

Die cut three concentric circles from white cardstock. Trim bits of patterned paper from THE UNDERGROUND main kit to back the open spaces and adhere them in place with foam dots. Definitely a labor of love but you gotta do what you gotta do! Adhere the circles on a gray cardstock layout base. Place two photos in the center. Turn the "HAPPY" from The Underground Card digital stamps into a cut file and die cut the letters from white cardstock; piece the letters along the curve below the photos and stitch over them. Print The Underground Printable by Hello Forever and punch out a number (in this case, "2" because that's how old Jane turned on this birthday). Write "nd" with a white pen. In a new photoshop document, places the letters from The Underground Project Life digital stamps to spell "BIRTHDAY", turn them mint, print onto white cardstock, and trim into a banner before adhering. Trim a sentiment banner from The Underground Printable by Hello Forever, add it above the title, then slip a "2014" bobby pin between. The title is complete! Journal with a white pen around the smallest circle. Print the 8.5 x 11" The Underground Digital Layout Template by Shanna Noel onto white cardstock then trim out the tags. Place three tags in a triangle around the biggest circle. Add matching colored cabochons on top. Print The Underground Printable by All For The Memories and trim out a couple matching colored hexagons. Print The Underground Printable by In a Creative Bubble, punch out the house circle, and add it by the last tag. Zigzag stitch over the tags for a bit of whimsy. Stamp the date with black ink on one of the tags. Drop white paint around the tags and let it dry. Phew, all done!

DESCRIPTION: When I have a lot of patterned paper to work with one of my favorite ways to showcase them all is to create a quilt-inspired layout!

JOURNALING SAYS: With Prague only 2 hours away, how can we say no to going as often as we can?!

HOW TO: Trim (16) 2.5" squares from the polka dot paper in THE UNDERGROUND main scrapbook kit. Punch or trim triangles and diamonds from all of the patterned papers in THE UNDERGROUND main scrapbook kit. Piece the papers onto each square in the same way, then put the 16 squares together on a cream cardstock layout base to create an interesting pattern. Stitch spiral circles at the corners of the squares. Trim a few tags from the 8.5 x 11" The Underground Digital Layout Template by Shanna Noel and add three to the top left corner and one more on the bottom right. Trim out the "HELLO" banner from The Underground Printable by Hello Forever, the "HERE & NOW" sentiment from The Underground Printable by In a Creative Bubble, and an orange label from The Underground Printable Labels by Hello Forever, then layer them over the tags on the top left. Journal with a gray pen on the label. Trim the "CURRENTLY" sentiment from The Underground Printable by In a Creative Bubble and a pink tab from The Underground Printable Labels by Hello Forever then layer them along with a photo on the bottom right. Stamp the date with black ink on the tab and slip an ampersand bobby pin over the photo. Turn the "adventures" and "say yes to" from The Underground Project Life digital stamps into cut files and die cut them from white cardstock; adhere the words across the top and bottom of the "quilt" and stitch them in place. Drop black India ink over the top left and bottom right sides and let it dry. All done!

DESCRIPTION: Sometimes I like to challenge myself to use only an add-on kit and that's how this here layout came to be. Using almost entirely the PICADILLY add on, plus two butterfly stickers from NOTTING HILL and the patterned paper gray striped base is from THE UNDERGROUND.

JOURNALING SAYS: You are such a beautiful girl with stunning blue eyes and a sweet personality. I love being your mom!

HOW TO: Paint white in diagonal strokes across a gray striped paper background and let it dry. Place Polaroid chipboard frames in a 3x3 grid over the dried paper. Back three of the frames with photos. Have fun embellishing each frame with stickers, sequins, Thickers, watercolor cards, printables, stamping, and more. Staple and/or stitch each frame in place.

DESCRIPTION: I found a fun paper folding technique to make unique bookmarks on Pinterest and thought it'd be fun to try in miniature on a layout! I used papers from all of THE UNDERGROUND scrapbook kits (THE UNDERGROUNDPICADILLYNOTTING HILL, and KING'S CROSS).

JOURNALING SAYS: We had some time to kill before naps so what did we do? Take a few selfies of course! So fun to be with you!

HOW TO: Draw three interlocking hearts across a kraft cardstock layout base. To make the mini bookmark paper pieces, I punched (4) 1" squares from each side of every paper in all of the kits. Then I folded two corners down and trimmed each piece back into a square. Took some time, but it's therapeutic for me. And I was watching Sherlock whilst cutting and piecing so all was right with the world. Place the mini bookmarks around the hearts then sew them down. Paint inside the hearts with white paint and let it dry. Adhere a photo inside each heart. Embellish with bits and pieces from all of THE UNDERGROUND scrapbook kits on the top left and bottom right corners and around the curves and angles of the hearts. Journal with a black pen on a badge sticker then stamp the date with black ink below. Drop white spray mist over the embellishments.

DESCRIPTION: We're asked to make 4 layouts every month, so when I'm still feeling creative enough to make a 5th layout, you know the kits are good :) So, once again, I had the wonderful privilege to design a background cut file exclusively for Studio Calico and I usually try to feature how to use it.
I wasn't sure how this layout was going to turn out. I actually die cut this cardstock first thing, letting the ideas simmer and stew around in my brain while I created the other four layouts. In the beginning I only painted 5 diamonds (the ones under the photos and the center). It didn't feel complete. So I let it sit overnight while I thought and envisioned what to do next. In the morning I came back to it and painted the rest of the diamonds. Now it's probably my favorite layout of the bunch. From super unsure to most liked - funny how that works!

JOURNALING SAYS: Ain't none :) All of the little sentiments tell the story!

HOW TO: Die cut the 12x12 The Underground Background Cut File by Paige Evans from white cardstock. Use Mister Huey's watercolors to paint inside each diamond and let it dry. Adhere the die cut cardstock on the Note paper by Crate Paper (from THE UNDERGROUND main scrapbook kit). Add a sequin and chipboard "XO" to the center flanked with wooden epoxy chevrons then add small diamond photos around. Cut out all the bits and pieces from the Memo paper by Crate Paper (from the NOTTING HILL add on) then use the little sentiments as well as stickers and printables to embellish the rest of the diamonds. Stamp the date with black ink on one of the diamonds. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
