Birds of a Feather Workshop Summary

Here are the layouts I taught how to make at the Birds of a Feather workshop the first weekend in March!
LOVE YOUR LAUGH by Paige Evans
DESCRIPTION: One of my favorite techniques is backing cut files with patterned papers - at the last Birds of a Feather event we backed a cut file with all the same shape. This time I wanted to share how to trace and cut different sized pieces for backing!
JOURNALING SAYS: Sitting pretty on the steps of a church in Assisi, Italy, gorgeous!
HOW TO: Trace each section of a large die cut shape onto patterned papers using a pencil. Cut out the shapes slightly larger than the tracing then erase the pencil lines. Adhere the cut shapes to the back of the die cut shape. Adhere the backed cut file with dimensional adhesive onto the B-side of Paper 01. Splatter three clusters of black watercolor paint around the layout. Overlap (2) 2.5 x 2.75” photos on the bottom left side of the die cut. Place as many hearts as you want including die cuts, puffy stickers, rose gold foil transparency stickers, chipboard stickers, and fussy cut hearts from Paper 02 and 11 over the paint splatters. Add a “happy” ticket sticker overlapping the photo. Stamp journaling lines next to the photo and stamp heart trios in the clusters. Journal to finish.
SUPPLIES: Patterned paper, die cuts, stickers (chipboard, foil transparency, paper, puffy), stamps: Oh My Heart by Paige Evans / Pink Paislee; Heart cut file: Paige Evans; Watercolors: Loew Cornell; Ink: StazOn; Die cut machine: Silhouette Cameo; Cardstock, pen, adhesive: American Crafts

THE GOOD LIFE by Paige Evans
DESCRIPTION: I couldn't resist making a wreath-style layout with all the different kinds of flowers in Oh My Heart! From fussy cut to die cut, chipboard, puffy, paper, and more, they all work together to create a beautiful page!
JOURNALING SAYS: Bouginvilla are everywhere in Greece and I had to stop and document each and every one pretty much! Love you + them!
HOW TO: Use a round object to lightly trace a circle onto a white cardstock background using a pencil. Splatter watercolors all over the circle and let dry. Fussy cut four large flowers from Paper 06. Adhere the fussy cut flowers, chipboard flower stickers, rose gold foil transparency sticker, and puffy flower stickers around the circle, leaving space for a photo and journaling. Add a 2.5 x 3” photo and place a puffy sticker title below. Tuck a rose gold scalloped border sticker under the photo. Write journaling to finish.

HEART YOU JANE by Paige Evans
DESCRIPTION: I love using the papers with all the patterns to create a page! Looks like it uses so many different papers but really it's just one!
JOURNALING SAYS: We had such a fun day on our first stop in Greece. These pics were taken as we were waiting for the tender to get back to the boat.
HOW TO: Use white paint and water to whitewash Paper 12 diagonally from bottom left to top right and let it dry. Trim Paper 10 into columns, fold each column in half, and hand cut hearts from each pattern, varying the size. Use a black pen to trace around each heart. Glue the hearts diagonally across the page then bend up the edges. Adhere (2) 2 x 2.5” photos to the page and create a title with Thickers and mini alphabet stickers with a scalloped border puffy sticker between. Place chipboard and paper sticker sentiments mostly color-on-color over the hearts. Stamp two sets of journaling lines next to one of the photos and journal on the lines.
SUPPLIES: Patterned paper, die cuts, stickers (chipboard, mini alphabet, paper, puffy), stamps: Oh My Heart by Paige Evans / Pink Paislee; Paint: FolkArt; Ink: StazOn; Pen, adhesive: American Crafts

HECK YES by Paige Evans
DESCRIPTION: A fun technique I like to teach at classes is making chevrons from triangles! Again this page only uses a single piece of patterned paper!
JOURNALING SAYS: Such a beautiful day walking through the oh-so-scenic streets of Santorini, Greece! Thank you for letting me take pics!
HOW TO: Trim Paper 24 into the individual squares and then cut 2 or 3 squares at a time in half diagonally to make triangles. On Paper 04, arrange the triangles to create 5 rows of “chevron” stripes. Create a photo cluster with a 2.5 x 3” photo, chipboard frame sticker, “heck yes” die cut card, rose gold foil floral journaling card, and a tag. Write journaling on the tag. Embellish with a scalloped washi tape sticker on the chipboard frame sticker, three flower die cuts, and two bird stickers. Add a heart transparency sticker directly on the photo.
SUPPLIES: Patterned paper, die cuts, stickers (chipboard, foil transparency, puffy), washi tape: Oh My Heart by Paige Evans / Pink Paislee; Pen, adhesive: American Crafts

On Saturday and Sunday March 4th and 5th 2017 I taught at the second Birds of a Feather event! Hey Little Magpie brought a pop-up shop so the delegates could go shopping. I'm tellin' ya, there's nothing better than actually seeing and holding and yes smelling product versus seeing it on a computer or cell phone screen!
Take Me Away and Oh My Heart!

Jackie, Sam, and Sheena did another fabulous job setting up the workspace and making it cute.

Snapping some pics before the official start!
 I love framing photos :)
Bea Valint flew all the way from Hungary to attend! She's amazing. Everything she touches and creates is golden!
 My space.
Class attendees participated in an online scrapbooking challenge and their creations were displayed on the back wall. At the end one lady was randomly selected to win a five pound gift voucher to the Hey Little Magpie shop.
Workin' away!
My favorite layout of the bunch is the floral wreath - you simply can't go wrong with layers and layers of flowers.
 Loving how this splattering looks.
Fussy cutting - you either love it or you hate it, HA!
We created 4 layouts in about 8 hours and hopefully everyone was able to learn some new techniques and walk away happy and ready to scrap with the leftovers! And then we did it all again the next day!
Three short clips of the event:

Saturday group photo:
All-in-all it was another really fun event, so well organized and put together and I can't thank the gals of Birds of a Feather enough for asking me to teach at their first two workshops! Wishing them much success and endless scrappy events in the future!
