Missy Whidden always inspires me with her colorful, layered, textured pages and this layout is no exception! Hand stitching does usually take some time, but I feel like it's always worth it!
Hey friends! Missy back again and I have a fun layout to share that features lots of hand stitching. I was inspired by the new Oh My Heart cut files that were recently added to the Silhouette Store. I chose a floral cluster and used a Cameo Sketch Pen to draw it out. I used a thumb back to poke holes through all the lines and then used lots of bright thread colors to hand stitch each shape. It did take a while to finish, but the end result is so worth it! I used some gelatos to color in the flowers and leaves. I mostly used bits and pieces from Oh My Heart and Take Me Away to embellish. This was lots of fun and I hope it inspires you!
Here you can see all the detail from the stitching. It also creates some amazing texture. I love how the messy gelato work looks. I wanted it to look a little artsy and abstract yet still have a bit of a realistic look as well.
On the other side of the layout, I brought in a few of the Oh My Heart flowers from the Ephemera Die Cuts. I fussy cut a few tiny orange flowers from Oh My Heart Paper 13. To add a pop of yellow, I brought in a yellow flower from the Take Me Away Chipboard Stickers. I layered in the cute pink die cut frame and added a flower Puffy Sticker overlapping the photo. I used the awesome Thickers for my simple title. I didn’t want to create a large or long title and take away from all those stitched flowers and leaves, so I kept it short. I used the yellow & white striped die cut frame from the Take Me Away Ephemera Die Cuts as a layer here as well. Above the photo I layered in a floral piece from the Oh My Heart Chipboard Stickers.
I highly recommend hand stitching. Here you can see how awesome the detail is and if you love texture, then this is something you have to try! You should check out all the new cut files from Oh My Heart in the Silhouette Store. This is just one way you can use them.
Here's a new process video for this layout:

I hope this gives you some fun ideas to try.! Using a template like this not only makes it easier to hand stitch, but it also makes adding paint or gelatos easier. You have a controlled shape to paint and you get a “messy” look yet you’re still painting in the lines. Thanks for stopping by!

Have you tried hand stitching? Do you love it? Hate it? Feel so-so about it? I for one can't get enough and have several more pages with stitching in the works!
