One technique I haven't tried too much myself is using extra large photos! In fact, I'm quite the opposite, I seem to use teeny tiny photos so the paper piecing and stitching and background can shine:) But design team member Steffi Ried is EXCELLENT at incorporating big photos on her pages, in fact, look carefully and you'll see this layout she made to share today is built entirely on a photo! Take it away Steffi:
Layouts with large photos are my favorite. This is a nice change of pace from designing a traditional layout. You only decorate it discreetly so that the photo is still in the foreground. I like this challenge.
I love using photos as backgrounds best! I make sure to use photos where there is enough white space for embellishments and journaling.
When cropping and printing, I make sure that the object is not in the middle of the photo, but on the edge. Here my daughter sits in the garden at the table with my stuff and she's at the bottom and the wall in the photo offers plenty of space to embellish. The photo is about 8.5 x 11.75". Next I selected all the embellishments and Thickers I wanted to use and placed them on the layout, but without sticking, so I could mark the area for the journaling. I used washi tape and I wrote the text with a typewriter.
Next I stitched the background with a sewing machine. This gives the photo an interesting texture.
The title consists of two parts. I die cut the word "craft" from Paper 18 with a Silhouette Cameo. I love the flowers on the black background. The cut file is from the Silhouette store. Below that I used Thickers from the Take Me Away collection to finish the title.
Paige's collections feature many of the finest embellishments that match the "craft" theme. I wanted to line up the photos across a piece of yard so the pens, stickers, etc. are attached to this.
And the layout is ready! I love to decorate large photos. The photo looks harmonious with the colors. Thanks for stopping by :) Until next time!
