Love This by Missy Whidden

Amazing things can happen when you're pushed out of your comfort zone! I challenged the gals this week to create a layout with a big photo and Missy Whidden turned up her A-game!
Hey, friends! Missy here and I am excited to share my layout today featuring an extra large photo. I wasn’t sure at first about using a big photo, but I love how it turned out. It was a nice change and it really gave me the chance to focus on creating some fun embellishments. I knew I wanted to add something to the left side of the photo since it had a lot of open space. I decided to use the flower laser cut sheet from the Oh My Heart 12x12 Paper Pad as a starting point. I pulled out the 6x6 Paper Pads from Oh My Heart, Take Me Away, and Fancy Free to sort through and find all different shades of pink, yellow, orange, green, blue, and purple. I wanted to back each flower with a different color and using up some scraps from those smaller patterned papers was perfect for that. I also used bits of Oh My Heart Paper 10 and Paper 24. I cut the flowers apart after backing them and then arranged them on the side. I used another patterned paper from the Oh My Heart 12x12 Paper Pad as my background and it’s so pretty with all of the tiny rose gold hearts!
To jazz up each flower I ran them all through my sewing machine and stitched around each petal in the same color. I wanted to dress them up even more so I used some chipboard flowers and a heart from the Oh My Heart Chipboard Stickers and a few Take Me Away Buttons in the centers of each flower. I love how that turned out! It really finished them off. To pull in more of the rose gold hearts on the background, I added some clear metallic rose gold flowers and heart stickers from the Oh My Heart Sticker Book.
To add in even more texture and color, I tangled up some coordinating colors of thread and tucked it in under the flowers. I didn’t want to go too big or bold with my title so I used some of the Take Me Away Thickers to spell “LOVE” and added “THIS” from the Oh My Heart Sticker Book. I like that the photo had all that extra space and was perfect for the flowers and title. I did do a little mixed media work on the background. I went around the photo with some white gesso and then used some gelatos in matching colors above and below the photo and around all the flowers. I used my fingers and a tiny drop of water to blend and smudge the color.
Here’s another look at the detail of the flowers. I love the mixing and matching of the collections here and the stitching really adds a fun texture to them. Here you can see the background mixed media work peeking around the flowers and above the photo. I also did a bit of detail stitching for some added color right on top of the photo.

This was so much fun to put together! I hope it inspires you to try scrapping a large photo. I wound up really enjoying it!

I love how you can instantly tell this is a Missy Whidden layout even though there's something a little bit different than "normal" (a large photo)! She's got style!
