Summer Fun Layout for Paige's Pages 18

Friday, May 31, 2019

Here is my third layout for Paige's Pages 18 at Big Picture Classes featuring rolled paper made with my Horizon collection.
I like to create layouts with rolled paper tubes a couple times a year – I love being able to use lots of patterned papers on a single layout and this is one way to do exactly that!
At the end of Lesson 3 I included the “S” PDF to print and use for re-creating this layout. You could also pick any letter of the alphabet or shape to cover with rolled paper tubes – think outside the box and make something unique!
One of my self-imposed challenges is to use a different patterned paper background for each layout I make with a collection. I hadn’t used this yellow floral paper yet (it’s the B-side of Paper 01 from Horizon) and I love how the colors pop off of it and create the ultimate summer vibes.

Mom Layout by Julie Taylor

Thursday, May 30, 2019

Hello there, Julie Taylor back with you again today sharing a layout using a long title and some old and new collections by Paige: HorizonWhimsical, and Pick-Me-Up.
I first chose to use the Hearts Wreath cut file and cut it a couple of times from white cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo before inking it with Distress Oxides to give it a subtle, pastel color. I then added some ink splotches and splatters to the Whimsical Paper 21 before distressing the edges and adding it at an angle to Whimsical Paper 04, tucking in a scalloped piece of Whimsical Paper 14.

I then took lots of the hearts out of the 30-page Paige Evans #StickerBook and layered them up adding white thread around them for texture. I put my larger photo up the top right, cutting it to fit the cut file, and added the smaller one into the cut file, down at the bottom left, and added some paper layers.

My title is made up using the Horizon Thickers and the Whimsical Foam Mini Thickers along with a Pick-Me-Up Sticker. A bit of machine stitching and a few word stickers finished off the layout.

Thanks for joining me today, until next time!

Born to be a Dreamer Layout by Missy Whidden

Wednesday, May 29, 2019

Hey, friends! Missy Whidden here. I have a bright & summery layout to share today using the Horizon collection and Paige’s Flower Heart cut file. I love scrapping photos of my girls in the pool because all of the bright colors always match with the turquoise pool water. I decided to use a rainbow variety of colors on this page.

I began by cutting the design using my Silhouette Cameo 3 on a dark blue paper, which is Horizon Paper 22. I pulled out several bright colored patterned papers and fussy cut some leaves and flowers to go on top of the cut file. I cut them a little small so the blue cut file would still be visible around the edges to show some contrast. I layered a few of them and added some adhesive foam for dimension. I used thick smooth white cardstock as my base and I coated most of the area around the heart with clear gesso. I wanted to pull in more of the turquoise color from the photos around the left side of the heart. I used a few different shades of blue ink sprays, some plastic packaging, and a brush to create a fun watercolor effect underneath the flowers and around the outside of the cut file. I also looped some coordinating colors of tangled thread around some of the flowers to add more texture.

I love the Epoxy Stickers and this one was perfect for my title. It has all the matching colors and I love how it looks under the photos here. It created a nice little area for my journaling.

I wanted to add a little something to the right of the photos, so I tucked in a large Floral Die Cut and some orange and yellow tangled thread. I added a light pink Floral Die Cut in between the photos on the left side as well. How often do you use larger cut files like this on your pages? I love doing this because it pretty much creates the layout for you. Once I had the base design finished it only took the photos and a few embellishments before it was complete. I think it helps you stretch your products also because you don’t have to use as many when you use mostly patterned papers on the layout.

I hope you guys enjoyed this! I had a blast putting it together. You can find all the details here in my process video.

Have a great day!

Happy Day Layout for Paige's Pages 18

Tuesday, May 28, 2019

Here is my second layout made for Paige's Pages 18 at Big Picture Classes and is all about texture.
This page might look like it took a long time to create, but it really didn't and it’s super easy to re-create! All you need are two pieces of the same paper (I used Paper 14 from my Horizon collection), a paper trimmer, and some scissors to make the distressed & quilted background.

I simply cut up Paper 14 into triangles, heavily distressed those triangles, and then put them back in place on a new piece of the very same paper (I used one from the 12x12 Paper Pad).

Usually I would machine stitch little paper bits like this in place, but I wanted the focus of texture to be on the paper and not machine stitching. That said, I did add machine stitching around the layout edges to create a border and used strong adhesive to attach the triangles in place.

Since the background is very busy, I didn’t add much else: a photo, a title on top of the photo made with a "Happy" Chipboard Sticker, journaling strips (I used my favorite font called Remington Noiseless), and just a pinch of Stickers & Ephemera Die Cuts, all in the same area to draw the eye into the photo and keep the focus there.

Simple Things Layout by Lady Nany

Monday, May 27, 2019

Hello creative friends, it's Lady Nany with a new layout using Paige's Horizon collection. Have you seen the myriad of possibilities we have with so many beautiful colors?! Today I chose pink and blue because this page portrays me and my father.
First I chose the Doily cut file and cut it with my Silhouette Cameo four times in different sizes from white cardstock. I selected Paper 02 as the basis of my project and I pasted the Doilies on the edges trying to make them stand out a bit then I trimmed the excess. I love texture on my pages so I sewed the doilies by hand with blue and pink thread. On the two larger doilies I added sequins and the two smaller ones blue knots.

I placed the photo in the center and decorated it with one of the cards from Paper 01 that comes in the Horizon Project Pad, the "Simple Things" card as the title. The Shaped Paper Clips are a super cute detail so I also added a scooter one to the photo. Following with the two colors chosen for this project (blue and pink) I added several Ephemera Die Cuts and Stickers.

On the sides of the photo I stamped some designs from the Acrylic Stamps using Distress Oxides. I added butterflies with foam tape to create dimension. To finish I added the date with black ink and I wrote the journaling.

That's all friends, thank you for visiting, see you next time!

Destination Journey Layout

Sunday, May 26, 2019

Here is a new layout I made for the International Scrapbook Day festivities that happened over at Scrapbook & Cards Today using the Project Pad found exclusively in JoAnn stores and my Flower Bunch cut file!
I started by cutting my Flower Bunch cut file from white cardstock using a Silhouette Cameo 3. Since the design is so intricate it took about 20 minutes so I unloaded the dishwasher and watered the flowers while it was cutting. Gotta love multitasking!
Once the machine finished cutting out the image I carefully peeled it off the mat and then set about backing each of the flowers and leaves. I actually had my machine help me with this. I ungrouped the original design in a new document, kept the inner pieces of all the flowers and leaves only, and then offset those pieces to make them slightly larger.

After deleting the original inner pieces and being left with the slightly larger offset pieces, I cut out the pieces in groups from different colors of patterned paper from Horizon. All-in-all it still took about two hours to back this entire design, but when I flipped it over after gluing the last piece in place, it was totally worth it!

I flipped through the Project Pad to find a coordinating color of paper on which to build my page. I chose a bright pink and did some simple mixed media on the background: I splashed watered down white acrylic paint and dark blue watercolor from the Tropicals set by Prima across and let it dry. Then I adhered the backed flower cut file onto the layout using dimensional adhesive so it pops off a bit and creates depth and shadows.

I chose two photos of me and Fox because the colors matched perfectly! I printed them at home and trimmed them out leaving a white border which I love doing because it helps the photos stand out more. I tucked the photos into the design on the left and right edges and trimmed any excess.

Embellishing was kept to a minimum and I only used two word stickers from the Project Pad, a sentiment label Chipboard Stickers, and a fussy cut flower/phrase from the 2x2 Paper Pads. I wrote journaling with a matching blue pen under the right photo.

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today! I hope you've found some inspiration!

Still Friends Layout by Cristina Sales

Saturday, May 25, 2019

Hi friends, Cristina Sales here and today I have a new page to share with you featuring a cut file I’d never used before - it’s the Cut and Fold Butterflies Background and I cut it with my Silhouette Cameo from white cardstock.
This kind of cut file is part of a series of cut & fold files by Paige that do not include a cut of the whole design but only some parts, leaving parts to lift and bend, allowing a glimpse of what is underneath. I had a lot of fun playing with my beloved watercolors, distributing them randomly on the wings of these wonderful butterflies. It seems like they're taking off in flight.

I then created a play of colors with the Necolor II of Caran d'Ache to get closer to the hot pink of the paper and then sprinkled the butterflies with color using a very light piece of acetate. I really love the final effect of the color all around the paper.

With a round-tipped brush I then dropped a few colors to create a splatter effect. To enrich the photo without weighing down the whole composition which was already very rich, I added a Tag, some Stickers, and a Charm, all from the Horizon collection. To make my title and a final embellishment I used the Foam Mini Thickers and Enamel Shapes from the Whimsical collection.

I hope you liked my project and many thanks for stopping by! See you in my next post!

Decorated Fabric Bag by Stefanie Ried

Friday, May 24, 2019

Hello and welcome to a new project from me, Stefanie Ried, using the Horizon collection. I will show you how you can easily and quickly decorate a small fabric bag. This is great as a gift or as a bag for your Travel Journal.
The Acrylic Stamps from the Horizon collection are perfect for your next journey. I embellished the fabric bag with the stamps. It's very easy and you get nice results.

I decorated the bag with multicolored embellishments. I created a small pendant. I cut out different motifs with scissors and attached some wooden beads to yarn.

I stuck the colorful words on a thick cardstock then I cut them out and attached them to the pendant with colored string.

It was a lot of fun to decorate this little bag. I hope you enjoyed my project. Many thanks for stopping by!

St. Petersburg, Russia Mini Album

Thursday, May 23, 2019

I have a new fabric tags mini album to share with you featuring my Horizon collection and documenting our adventure in St. Petersburg, Russia!
First, check out the process video to see how this mini album came together from start-to-finish:

I used the 6 feet / 10 pieces Banner by Craft Smith from Michaels as the base. I've never made a mini album from fabric before so this was really fun! Trying new things sparks creativity and pushes me out of my comfort zone, which is always a good thing.
I started by painting each of the 10 tags a different color - I mostly used acrylic paints by Vicki Boutin as well as a couple colors from my stash. I let the tags dry thoroughly before continuing on. While they were drying I used my Silhouette Cameo 3 and cut files (Stencils Set 1 and Stencils Set 2) to create 6" stencils.
I always use white textured cardstock from American Crafts and for these intricate designs I used a brand new ratchet blade set at a depth of 5 and a speed of 2. They cut cleanly and beautifully with these settings! Then I placed all the tags out on my table and one by one I used the stencils to scrape modeling paste mixed with the same acrylic paints through. I LOVE the texture this adds.

On the cover I embellished with Horizon Epoxy Stickers, a heart and flower Chipboard Sticker, sentiment Sticker, and Floral Die Cut. There's also some white tangled thread in the mix. For the title I used the colorful Foam Mini Thickers from Whimsical. To help keep things in place permanently I machine stitched through some pieces.
Each page has small square photos matted on distressed papers from the 2x2 Paper Pads and then embellished with bits & pieces from Horizon. I copied, pasted, printed, trimmed, and glued journaling taken from the blog post recap. I always like to use the font Remington Noiseless to keep consistency throughout all my mini albums.
Again, to help things stay in place and to add texture, I added machine stitching.
I tried to break free from my tone-on-tone default way of embellishing, but clearly I'm still working on it :) :)
Sometimes I had more photos than could fit on the page and still see the texture on the first layer, so I would staple a few pictures together and then adhere the back one in place for an interactive element.
I replaced the small photo on this last page with a larger one to make a big closing statement. Seeing this church was the highlight of St. Petersburg so I wanted it to make an impact.
I loooooved making this mini album. So fun to push myself creatively and try new things - it always branches out to more new ideas!
Thanks for stopping by and I can't wait to show you my next mini album!
