Welcome to Colorful Colorado Layout

I have a new layout to share today that I made for the Pink Paislee blog using the new & STUNNING Indigo & Ivy collection.
I started by cutting my Geometric Shapes Background cut file from textured white American Crafts cardstock. I always use textured white American Crafts cardstock for cut files and the Silhouette Cameo 3 - it cuts like butter! I use a ratchet blade set to a depth of 5 and a speed of 2.
Next I backed all of the inside pieces with papers from the 6x6 Paper Pad. Look closely and you'll also see that I used three blue papers from my Horizon collection. To back the shapes quickly I saved the inner pieces from the cutting mat, traced them onto the backside of the patterned papers, and then when I cut them out I just cut them slightly larger. I used liquid glue to attach all the paper pieces in place.
This next step isn't necessary but I love the texture that it adds: I used my sewing machine and white thread to stitch all over the cut file. It's definitely not perfect, and that's okay! I've learned to embrace the imperfections in scrapbooking - it means we're only human! It took some patience and I'll admit I was afraid the cut file would tear as I was sewing, but luckily it worked out in the end.
There are so many great background papers to choose from, I couldn't decide between four great options, so I actually turned to instagram and had people take a vote on which paper I should use. Paper 09 won the votes so that's the paper I went with! Thank you everyone for helping me with my indecisiveness :) Before adhering the cut file with dimensional adhesive I splashed watered down white acrylic paint, dark blue spray mist, and Vintage Pastels watercolors across the background.
I tucked my photo into the middle and embellished with stickers, sentiments, ephemera die cuts, and epoxy heart stickers - anything that I thought went along with the story behind this photo. We moved to Colorado almost a year ago and as we crossed over into the state we stopped to take a photo. I wrote a sentence of journaling with a white pen around the curve of the top shape but I had more I wanted to say so I used a black pen and drew three journaling lines at the bottom. To finish I added the Thickers from the collection above the white journaling to say "Colorado".
I hope this layout inspires you to check out the new Indigo & Ivy collection as well as take a look at my cut files! Thank you so much for stopping by today, I really enjoyed making this layout!

  1. The paper, shapes and how you decided to put it together is so original and interesting. I'm usually drawn to lots of colour but really love this. It's 'soothing' and it feels like you just float from island to island. Really pretty Paige :D xK
