Hocus Pocus Layout by Maija Männistö

Hi everyone, Maija Männistö here to share a Halloween layout made with the Truly Grateful collection! I had so much making this Halloween-themed layout with the photo of me as Professor McGonagall from last year using two of Paige’s cut files: Bat Background and Hocus Pocus.
I wanted to create a mixed media background with the bats so I colored my white modeling paste black with acrylic paint and used the cut file as a stencil. Given the fact that cardstock stencils aren’t the best because they don’t stay at their place as well there are some leaks of the paste in my layout but I really don’t mind as it just gives it the handmade look. If you want to be more precise I recommend cutting the desired shape from acetate sheet as it is sturdier.

For a little more playful look and more color I added splashes of color mists in three different colors, coordinating with the colors I chose for the other cut file. I also added colors to the borders of the page by cutting the white cardstock a little smaller and then adding to different patterned papers from the 12x12 Paper Pad on the background and stitching them together. A little tip: I cut out the centers of the patterned papers so the page doesn’t get too thick and I don’t waste any paper!

For the title and the focal point of the layout I used this super cute Hocus Pocus cut file. I wanted to add lots of color to this so I backed up the letters with various patterned papers using both the individual sheets of paper as well as papers from the 6x8 Paper Pad based on the size of the pattern I wanted to have. The little creatures I backed with plain black cardstock and one with gold cardstock.

With embellishing I wanted to keep it quite simple so I only used stars in different sizes. The blue ones I cut from Paper 13 and the smallest I cut from the same papers I used for the letters with a small star punch. For middle sized stars I used the ones on the Cardstock Stickers and also added few of the little dots from the Epoxy Stickers. For a finishing touch I added the ‘magical’ phrase sticker from the Cardstock Stickers because that’s what this season is all about: Magic.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!
