Hello friends, it’s Kelly Daye, here and welcome to a new decade filled with even more scrapping adventures! My last layout was all about stitching and a few select embellishments but I’ve really piled on the pretties with this one.
I’ve used the confetti side of Truly Grateful Paper 17 as my background. To me it reads as a neutral but has a bit of colour and pattern to play it up. I knew I wanted to design with lots of flowers and used Paige’s Floral Font cut file to create my title, 2020. Once the numbers where welded together, I used the offset feature in the Silhouette Design Studio to create a ‘window’ to cut out of the background paper. Once cut, I trimmed 1/4” off of two sides of Paper 17 and taped it over Paper 04. Of course there had to be some stitching, that’s my jam! So I chain stitched all around the window. I always love the extra texture. I cut the title from white cardstock and paper-backed with paper from the 6x8 Paper Pad. The mini patterns in the pad were perfect for it!
Once my title was in place, I began to design little islands of florals, butterflies, leaves, and mushrooms to surround it. I deliberately ensured the title had a continuous bit of purple background around it. I think that helps set it apart and stand out even more. A tiny mauve bird from the cute Puffy Stickers flies into my future. I just adore the colourful Puffy Phrase Stickers and added a rather silly “HELLOOO” above the main title for a bit of fun! Here’s something to try, for a pretty border I added 1/8” Score Tape to the edge of my background and peeled back 2” sections at a time while adding different colours of glitter. Sparkle and shine!
“Start with a grateful heart” seemed like the absolutely perfect message to include at the beginning of a new year. This, along with the gorgeous, colourful wreath and butterfly are all from the Ephemera Die Cuts. These colours make my heart so happy! Since there must always be sparkle, I’ve included sequins and gold Stickles from my stash. Have you spotted the wee glittering hearts around the page? I used Paige’s Heart Stencil and some Gold Glitter Gel to add this final touch.
Thanks so much for being here. I’m really looking forward to another creative year and all your beautiful inspirations too!
