Last year I swore I was going to keep things simple and create a traditional 6x8 pocket page album for my December Daily. And I had every intention of doing so! And then serendipity took over. What began as a layout has evolved into the covers of my December Daily 2020 :)
The idea behind the layout was to handstitch through sections of Paper 11 in my Go the Scenic Route collection and then piece them onto a 12x12 background. I spent about 8 hours over the course of a week chain link stitching through the diamonds using matching colored DMC thread.
The more I looked at it, the more the diamonds in the circles reminded me of ornaments. The wheels began to turn and I had the thought of cutting the paper in half to use as covers. I took the idea and ran with it.
I used PVA glue to attach the paper covers onto two pieces of chipboard then used an exacto knife to trim them flush. They're not perfect, you can see the thread ends sticking out every which way, and I am A-OK with that. It's all part of the handmade nature of crafting! I will cover the backs of the chipboard with patterned paper and possibly paint the edges white. Then the next step will be to punch three holes through the left side so that I can start adding pages to create a 6x6" binder-ring style album!
Figuring out the format of my December Daily is always the hardest part for me so I'm super happy I've already got this year's figured out! In the past I've made a traditional 6x8 pocket page album, a coptic book album, a MemoryDex album, a tree-shaped album (also with an embroidered cover!), a 4x8" album featuring cut files, and now this year is a 6x6" album which will probably also feature cut files :) I can't stay away from them!
Speaking of Christmas cut files! Slowly but surely I'm getting into the spirit of Christmas. Below is a collage of my December Daily 2019 featuring my Christmas cut files.
