It's a Small World Layout by Shimelle

Hello crafty friends! Shimelle here, wishing you a magical day and sharing a very special page that might get a song stuck in your head. Sorry about that. I love Paige's new Small World cut file and couldn't wait to get to work with this Mary Blair style with a Disneyland photo.

Almost all the work on this page came from backing the Small World cut file, cut from white cardstock. It would look beautiful backed with just one paper, but apparently I decided more is more and spent an afternoon cutting tiny pieces to fill it with color and pattern! All the backing papers came from the Go the Scenic Route 6x8 Paper Pad and I pulled out five papers to use rather than trying to include the entire paper pad. I think it's more cohesive this way and it definitely made it easier to choose which paper should go in which window.

Next I started building on the background, starting with the blue b-side of Paper 2. I may have done a victory lap of my desk when the Foam Thickers spelled out 'It's a Small World' in just the same width as the cut file! I love it when that happens. (I cut down an exclamation point to make the apostrophe.) Then I tucked my photo behind some of the tower turrets of the cut file. You could definitely place the photo to go over the top of the cut file, and I often do that. This time, I tucked it behind because it's not a particularly wonderful photo. His smile is awesome and there's a real story I wanted to tell here, but the photo in its full crop is not a wonderful portrait by any stretch of the imagination. This time, the cut file goes on top and the towers point up toward that smiling face!

The remaining embellishment is super simple but frames the top of the photo with some color to bring the whole page together: hearts from the Chipboard Stickerss and blue foiled motifs from the Cardstock Stickers. I wrote down the story with a white pen. This design could also work with a second photo where my journaling sits on the page, if you have a little less to write.

Paige also has a new Castle cut file in her shop. Should I try that one next? Or do you have another cut file you would really love to see here on the blog? Thanks so much for taking a look at my Small World project, wherever in the world you may be!
