Christmas Hoops Layout by Missy Whidden

Merry Christmas, friends! Missy Whidden here with a colorful Christmas layout featuring Paige’s Go the Scenic Route collection and two of Paige’s cut files: Christmas Tree and Christmas Tree. Since my photos were so colorful I decided to emphasize all the color and go with a rainbow color scheme. I cut the trees on my Silhouette Cameo using a variety of mostly solid color patterned papers. I created a line of trees and then made my own background on textured white cardstock. I coated the paper with clear gesso first and then used lots of blue Shimmerz to create a sky on the top portion. I also splattered white acrylic paint to create a snow effect.

I layered the trees across the page horizontally and then added more Shimmerz below each one in a matching color. I sorted through all of the embellishments in Go the Scenic Route and chose items that matched each tree. At first I tried to keep everything tone-on-tone but then decided to scatter the color around. Here I used a heart from the Puffy Stickers, a ticket from the Ephemera Die Cuts, a small Chipboard Sticker heart, and a little bird I fussy cut from the 6x8 Paper Pad. I also popped up a few of the trees with adhesive foam to create depth.

Here you can see the texture and layering. I continued adding bits and pieces around the photos. I used a few Cardstock Stickers, more Puffy Stickers, and Chipboard Stickers. I added sparkle to some of the trees with Nuvo Glimmer Paste. I machine stitched on a few of the trees for added texture using white thread.

I wanted a fun title to match the photos, so I did a little mixing and matching. I wanted a solid color for “Christmas” so I pulled out the dark navy Mini Thickers from the Pick-Me-Up collection and paired them with the Foam Thickers from Go the Scenic Route. I softened up the blue alphas with a bit of white gesso. I also added in a Puffy Phrase Sticker and a Cardstock Sticker. I added a few more layers behind the photos using the top paper strips in the 6x8 Paper Pad.

I love creating holiday pages using nontraditional colors and collections like this! It’s such a fun challenge. My photos had lots of color in them, so I wanted to match that and still make it look like a Christmas page. I think it was a success! Hopefully this gives you some inspiration today. I wish you a very merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a happy New Year!
