Snowflakes Background Layout

 Hi friends! Paige Evans here with a new layout and process video to share with you today featuring my Snowflakes Background cut file and Go the Scenic Route collection!

Here is the process video so you can see how this layout came together from start-to-finish:

I began by die cutting my Snowflakes Background cut file from two pieces of patterned paper: the painterly pink Paper 13 and the painterly blue B-side of Paper 2.

After peeling off all of the snowflakes from the sticky mat, it was time to choose a background. I like to challenge myself to use a different piece of patterned paper for every layout and my eye was immediately drawn to this fuschia pink B-side of Paper 20 - the mandalas and doilies remind me of snowflakes, the dark pink brings out some of the darker pinks of the snowflakes, and I hadn't used it before. Win win win! 

To soften the brightness and tone it down a tad, I covered the background with a layer of white gesso. Once it dried I splashed watered down white acrylic paint and pink/blue Pastel Dreams watercolors on top. Then I placed all of the snowflakes, trying to space them out as far as color and size to create a unique background design.

I added a dab of liquid glue to the centers of the snowflake backs to attach them in place and the splashed more watered down white acrylic paint on top to resemble falling snow. I bent up the snowflake edges for texture and dimension. I added a photo of Fox & Jane to the lower right side and then clustered tags and die cuts from the Ephemera Die Cuts under and around it.

The title is made from a mix of Foam Thickers, Puffy Phrase Stickers, and Puffy Word Stickers to say "BRRRRR" and I machine stitched through it to keep the letters in place permanently. I wrote journaling with a dark blue pen to match the other darker blues going on in the layout and stamped the date with the same pen used as ink below.
