Interactive Mini Book by Amber Mitchell

Monday, January 11, 2021

Hello crafty friends, Amber Mitchell here on Paige's blog today to share with you a fun mini book I created to kick off the new year!

To create this album, I used the Bloom Street collection and several of Paige's cut files. The first cut file I used was the Pots cut file which I added to the cover of my book. When I saw this file in the Silhouette Design Store, I instantly knew I had to turn it into vases full of flowers. I backed the pots using some simple patterns from Bloom Street as this allowed the flowers to pop off the page more.

To create the flowers, I used a handful of Paige's Rolled Flower cut files. I love the different textures and dimensions that these added to the cover.  I also used floral die cuts from the Bloom Street Digital Collection to add leaves and 2D flowers to the cover as well.

When it came to creating the inside aspects of this album, I knew I wanted to have multiple, interactive elements. I first created two pockets that I added to the inside covers on each side of my book. I embellished these lightly using some heart-shaped trim from my stash. Next, I created two simple journals by folding papers in half, stacking them, and then binding them to the book using white elastic thread. To add more flair to the book, I created handmade paper beads and strung these along the elastic thread on the outside of the book before tying it off. I also included two of the beautiful Flower Charms from Bloom Street for added pops of color.

With my pockets and journals created, I moved on to creating the more interactive bits of this book. The first pocket is full of embellished envelopes I created using Paige's Envelope cut file. These will be perfect for storing special photos and tuck ins.

I embellished these using digital die cuts and added some phrase sentiments using the Puffy Word Stickers.

The second pocket holds a mini album (a mini within a mini!) that I created using Paige's Mini Album with Tabbed Edges cut file. This cut file is one of my favorites. I've used it before and I loved coming back to it for this project. It makes such a fun, interactive addition to this mini book that will make flipping through the entirety of this project more fun.

To finish embellishing, I dressed up my two journals. Cut files make for the perfect, quick embellishment! I used the Love cut file to decorate the first journal in my book and layered it up among some Floral Die Cuts.

This project was a hefty one that took a few days to create, but I love how it turned out and I can't wait to fill it with memories from this year. Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today! I'll see you next time with another fun project!
