Hello hello! Here is a layout I made for the American Crafts blog with a Spring theme using my brand new Wonders collection featuring flowers of course :) Also, happy St. Patrick’s Day!
To begin, I die cut my Flowers cut file from white cardstock and then it actually sat on my desk for a few days while I gathered some ideas for how to use it and finished up other big projects.
I realized I hadn’t used the Floral Die Cuts from Wonders on any layout yet! Perfect place to start, pairing die cut flowers with a flowers die cut. But first, I did some mixed media. I grabbed the light green floral B-side of Paper 14 and scraped white gesso across the background to lighten it up and prepare it for acrylic paint & watercolors. Then I splashed watered down white acrylic paint and Pastel Dreams watercolors across in colors to match the florals of Wonders. I used my hair dryer to speed up the drying process.
Then I grabbed the Floral Die Cuts and Flowers cut file and layered the die cuts under and on top of the cut file. I used the cut file as a sort of template for placing the flowers underneath and on top - flowers under flowers, leaves under leaves - and then paired color coordinating flowers on top. Before gluing everything in place, I took a picture with my phone to remember how it looked, and then I spent a few minutes creasing and bending all the flower petals and leaves to create more realistic texture and dimension.
Once everything was glued down, I added two photos of Jane playing piano in the center and made the title “wonderful” with a Cardstock Sticker along with a piece of floral Washi Tape underneath. Below that I wrote journaling with a blue pen. The final step was adding a few tiny floral stickers from the 8-Page Sticker Book around the background.
I hope this layout gets you excited for Spring and to use my new Wonders collection which is shipping and available now! Can’t wait to see what you make with my newest scrapbooking collection!
I love how you used the cut file as a base rather than paper backing it Paige! The tiny dainty flowers on your background are a nice contrast to the party up front with bold and colourful blooms. You always have such wonderful balance happening on your layouts and I'm constantly inspired xK
ReplyDeleteI’m with Kelly on this, how the cut file is layered in with the die cuts and inspiring as always. Love it.
