Hello friends! Krystal Idunate here today, sharing a new spread I created using Paige’s Jewel Circle cut file, Best Day Ever cut file, and Wonders collection. I love creating smaller scale projects in a Traveler’s Notebook and using cut files to create ways to add journaling or an interactive element to my page. I loved the idea of creating a flip out half-circle to document a story about my husband and spending time with his family for the first time in months.
To get started with this spread, I resized the Jewel Circle cut file to roughly 8.25” in diameter. I wanted the straight edge of the half circle to align with the edge of the traveler’s notebook and to fill up the entire 8.25” length. Once I had my circle resized, I opened up the Best Day Ever cut file and sized it to fit inside half of the circle (roughly 3.5” wide). I cut both from a textured white cardstock so the colors I chose to back them with would pop.
Since the Traveler’s Notebook I was using had a red colored paper to pair with my full page photo - mimicking the red in my husband’s shirt, I knew I wanted to back the two cut files with more colors found in the photo. I went on the hunt for all the papers in the 6x8 Paper Pad with blue hues. I thought backing the jewel with blues to pull in the blue from my husband’s jeans would look really good against the red. Then, I also picked out an ombre yellow polka dot paper for the title - again, pulling in the yellow from the star on my husband's shirt. I love the way all of these colors and patterns work together.
Once I had all of the files backed, I took the half circle jewel and traced a copy of it on textured white cardstock. I brought that over to my typewriter to add my journaling, and then cut the half circle out. To make this piece interactive, I added a strip of Washi Tape to the unfinished side of the half circle jewel. I then adhered the half circle of journaling on top of that - finishing the backside of the cut file. Finally, I adhered the other half of the Washi Tape to the edge of my Traveler’s Notebook paper. (I did add some extra double sided tape to the edge, under the washi tape, to make sure it had a really strong hold.) For my finishing touches, I adhered the Best Day Ever cut file title onto the front of the Jewel Circle. Then, on the opened flap, I added a few clear stickers from the 8-Page Sticker Book. I wanted to add one final element to the red paper to make it a little more interesting. So, I layered up two die cuts from the Ephemera Die Cuts and placed a few foiled hearts from the Cardstock Stickers around that. For my photo, I simply added a label sticker from the 8-Page Sticker Book, date stamped it, and added a final foil heart Cardstock Sticker.
This spread was a really fun one to make and I truly love the impact of the large cut file element with the full page photo. I think it looks striking! I hope this spread inspires you to think about how you can use Paige's cut files in all different sizes of projects and how you can use them to create awesome interactive components. Thank you so much for stopping by today and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
