I have another layout with a process video to share with you today, say what?! Go me :) This is a follow up to my previous layout & process video which feature the pattern swatches from the Bungalow Lane 2x2 Paper Pads - this time I'm using the phrase swatches from the 2x2 Paper Pads.
Here is the process video so you can see how this layout came together from start-to-finish:
I started by taking out the 18 unique phrases from the 2x2 Paper Pads and mixing them along with (7) 2" square photos onto the kraft leafy B-side of Paper 7. Once I figured out the placement I liked, I took a pic to refer back to and then removed all the papers/photos for adding machine stitching.
I made a mark with a pencil and a ruler every 2.4" around all 4 edges of the background and then machine stitched with a basic running stitch with white thread to create a grid. For another layer of texture and interest I distressed the edges of all the paper swatches with a pair of fine-tipped scissors. The distressing brings out the white core of the papers and helps them pop off the background.
Time for some hand stitching! These are the DMC thread colors I pulled a few months ago to match Bungalow Lane. I always use all 6 strands of thread. I grabbed 7 of the swatches and pierced holes about every 1/8-1/4" around the larger shapes. I did a mix of backstitching and chain link stitching. You can find my tutorial for hand stitching techniques HERE.
I super duper love the texture, interest, and handmade-ness hand stitching adds :) I put the stitched papers back in their squares and finally attached all the papers and photos in place with adhesive.
Since the background had a lot going on, the only embellishments I added were a gold heart "XO" and "THIS HERE" Foam Phrase Stickers to cover a "thank you" sentiment. I also added a round sticker from the 8-Page Sticker Book over a sentiment and journaled on it with a blue pen.
I hope this layout inspires you to use those 2x2 Paper Pads that have been in 9 of my collections now! Wow I didn't realize they'd been in so many! Time to use them all :) See you again soon! Have a happy scrappy day!SUPPLIES: Patterned papers, stickers, embellishments: Bungalow Lane; Embroidery thread: DMC; Sewing machine: Brother; Thread: Coats & Clark
