This is Our Happy Place Layout by Missy Whidden

Hey friends! Missy Whidden here with a new layout featuring the Bungalow Lane collection. I used Paige’s Floral Butterfly cut file as the main feature on the page and I cut it from Paper 16 using my Silhouette Cameo. I love that gradient pink color and knew it would look beautiful mixed with pretty flowers. I used textured white cardstock for the background and I coated with clear gesso first to prep it. I went with gold as a subtle background color. I mixed two gold Shimmerz Paints to create a big section of gold watercolor behind and around the butterfly. Around the edges of the cardstock I blended two blue Shimmerz to add messy interest. I stacked my two photos vertically and embellished with lots of beautiful flowers from the Floral Die Cuts.

Here is my process video for this layout:

I love this Floral Butterfly cut file because it’s perfect for “peekaboo” mixed media. You can see it peeking through all of the flowers. The texture from the cardstock is really neat too. I went with pink, yellow, and blue Floral Die Cuts here and some of them I popped up using adhesive foam to create more dimension. I topped a few of the flowers with Chipboard Stickers and Embossed Puffy Stickers. The buttons are perfect for that! I also pulled the butterfly from the Acrylic Stamps and created a few die cuts. I simply stamped them onto some scrap white cardstock using a gold ink pad and cut them out. I kept going with the butterfly theme and pulled three metallic gold butterflies from the 8-Page Sticker Book as well. I smudged a bit of white gesso over them to make the shine a little more matte.

I tucked in more flowers here on the right side and added more stamped butterflies. I added some interest to the cut file by smudging white gesso over parts of it and then splattering white acrylic paint on it. For my title, I used a Foam Phrase Sticker banner piece - I decided place it in between the photos.

I added a few more of the stamped butterflies and more of the Foam Phrase Stickers. Here you can see the difference in heights of everything. I popped up the cut file and you can see the fun shadowing it creates. Some bits are flat against the background while others are raised up. I think creating different layers and levels really makes the whole design pop off the page and come to life.

I hope this layout inspires you in some way today! I had lots of fun making it! Thanks so much for stopping by!
