Hi friends! Andrea Lake here and I am so excited to share my take on Paige’s Happy Birthday Scene Cut File shared in her Happy Scrappy Place Facebook Group! This is definitely one of those cut files that seem very intimidating when you cut it out but once you come up with a system, it is really fun to see how it starts coming all together.
I decided I wanted to keep this page as a scene instead of adding photos. I am thinking I can use this as a piece to decorate the table during my daughter’s or my own birthday celebration. I am now thinking I need to make a second version for my boys :) I also wanted this page to be as colorful and dimensional as possible. I love all the colors in the Splendid collection. I cut the cut file from white cardstock and used different patterned papers and gold cardstock to back it. To work on this intricate piece, I started with the ‘Happy Birthday’ words and used a single color for each word. That way I can use that as the focal point of my page and dive right into the backing process without hesitation. After that, I looked for shapes that I could find multiples of, and backed them using the same colors. I repeated this process until I got to the small stars and backed them using the gold cardstock. The best part is when you flip that cut file and a beautiful design finally comes to life! It is so rewarding.
I offset and cut the outline of the cut file using a yellow piece of patterned paper from Splendid and used foam adhesive to add that on top of a bright pink patterned paper (also from Splendid). I created a frame with a piece of cardstock and added one more colorful patterned paper to bring the entire piece together.
I will be sharing a process video showing you my process and how everything flows when working with intricate cut files. I would also love to see your take on it! Would you add photos? Journaling? I like how different the same cut file looks from person to person!
