Hi friends! Ashley Neu back for the Paige Evans Cut File Design Team! I am sharing a fun Christmas layout today using the Home For The Holidays from the 25 Christmas Cut Files 2020. I decided to take on a fun creative challenge and use Paige’s Garden Shoppe collection which is primarily a fall collection to create this fun Christmas scene!
Something I haven’t done in a while is to use black cardstock to cut out a cut file. I love the way the black cardstock looks with these super bright colors! I backed the lights and the word ‘HOLIDAYS’ using Paper 9. I embellished the center of a few of the letters with Enamel Button Stickers. Next, I used Paper 3 to back the words ‘FOR THE’ which gave a nice lighter feel to the very bright colors in the layout. I printed my photos with the plan to use them in the word ‘HOME’ so I strategically cropped them so my daughters’ faces would peek through the letters. I grabbed my white gel pen to create some stitching lines around my photos. This has been a new technique that I’ve been using. I think it really helps draw your eyes to the photos when the layout may seem a little bit busy. I wanted to have a subtitle stating which Christmas these photos were taken so I grabbed the 8-Page Sticker Book to spell out ‘CHRISTMAS EVE’ and used some black block numbers from my stash to add the year. Before adhering the lights onto Paper 4 that I added to the house, I attached embroidery floss that I spun into small circles behind the lights. This gives the illusion that the lights are lit! I adhered the cut file onto Paper 19 and added 'snow' on the ground and smoke to the chimney using torn white cardstock. Lastly, I added chain stitching along the edge of the blue background.
This is one of my new favorites! I just love the bright fun colors and the black cut file! Don’t be afraid to use non-Christmas themed collections to create a Christmas layout. Hope you have a wonderful day! Take care!
