Beautiful Layout by Phil Donahue

Hello scrappy friends! Phil Donahue here and I'm happy to be back on Paige's blog with a layout featuring her Beyoutiful Cut File along with elements from Blooming Wild! For this project I wanted to document a photo of my niece Zelda walking around being a beautiful (inside and out) fashionista! Although many aspects of the collection are bright and pastel, I really wanted to feature the more saturated, regal colors in the collection with this layout.
The base of my color scheme and background were the scalloped stripes from Paper 21. I cut each strip along the scallops and distressed the edges. I layered each piece on a scrap of cardstock to have more options when figuring out my layout and lifted the edges to create more depth and dimension. I used the gradient pink to yellow Paper 3 (taken from the 12x12 Paper Pad) as a mat behind the scalloped paper. This paper would later inspire my technique on the cut file. The main 12x12 was a burgundy leaf patterned paper from my stash to highlight the maroons in the papers and deep tones in the photo. I layered the matted scalloped paper in the center of the page and began working on the cut file. I tried a new technique with the cut file which was super easy and came out amazingly! After cutting the Beyoutiful from white cardstock I left the entire sheet of cardstock on the sticky mat and used a gradient of pink to yellow Distress Oxides to color the letters. Then I simply removed the cut file, adhered 1/8" foam strips in some areas behind the lettering, and adhered it onto the background as if it were a large die cut. This served as my title and an anchor for the photo and embellishments. This is a super fun and simple way to customize nearly any cut file to fit with any layout perfectly! After matting the photo with a yellow patterned paper from the 6x8 Paper Pad I placed it in the perfect spot on the page. I added hearts, butterflies, and phrases from both the Cardstock Stickers and Chipboard Stickers in three areas of the layout. I used Mini Flower Puffy Stickers to add even more embellishment to the layout and finished off with splatters of gold paint.
I hope you found some inspiration from this layout and want to try the Beyoutiful Cut File along with the Blooming Wild collection!
