To celebrate a whole year of my mom's new healthy lifestyle, we planned a girls weekend in Vegas!
Friday morning I finished packing, got ready, and took the kids to school.
I drove the 45 minutes to the airport, took a picture of where I parked so I don't lose my car, and did the whole rigmarole of all that is traveling at DIA - the largest airport in the United States by total area and the second largest airport in the world after King Fahd International Airport in Dubai. It's also the 3rd busiest airport in the world behind Atlanta and Dallas Fort Worth. All says Wikipedia.
Once at the gate, I sat down for about 20 minutes and then everyone in the area got a text that the flight was delayed an hour and 10 minutes. No biggie, whatever. My mom's flight from Seattle to Vegas was also delayed. I decided to walk to the opposite end of the terminal and back. Just to give you an idea of how big DIA is, it took me 22 minutes to walk to the other end. Once there, I got a text that my flight was CANCELED. Whaaat? Why??? I had to huff it 20 minutes back to the gate to see what was going on. They blamed the weather (it was a beautiful, cloudless, calm weather day in Vegas) but the truth is the runway is under construction causing delays across the board into Vegas. My flight was rescheduled to 10:30pm, but that's nuts. I can't stay up past 9pm lol. My bag was already on the airplane and headed to Phoenix (my flight was supposed to go to Vegas, then onto Phoenix, but they just cut out Vegas). I stood in a help desk line for about an hour, and then went home, super sad.
The kitties were happy to see me, as were the kids and Chris, so we got to spend a bonus night together.
We went to MOD Pizza and Twisted Sugar as consolation.
Instead of taking the 10:30pm flight which I assumed would be delayed hours too, I opted to take the first flight to Vegas the next morning. I woke up at 3:30am Mountain Time (2:30am Pacific - Vegas - time) and headed to the airport to try again.
Success! Bye bye Denver! Viva Las Vegas!
First things first, we went to Kneaders for a free Mother's Day French Toast breakfast. Soooo good. That caramel syrup though!
Time to chill for a bit at my sister's house. She's an amazing quilter and bought this pretty new cabinet to house her creations.
Once baby Zula went down for a nap, we headed to the strip.
Chris has been wanting a Mission to Pluto Swatch so for his anniversary present we (the girls) went to New York New York and luckily they had one. Some of these watches are a super hot commodity lol.
Then we went to The Shops at Crystals.
Pretty things my sister has taught me all about.
Chocolate from Van Cleef & Arpels.
After a successful outing we went home to chill. Dusty & Rocky try to sneak inside any chance they get.
Allie and Tate just redid their pool and landscaping and it's breathtaking!
The bougainvillea are bloomin' beautiful!
We spent a lot of time outside, lounging by and in the pool.
The pinks and blues and greens! If that doesn't scream 'summer' I don't know what does!
Mickey is a cute kitty.
For dinner we went to Shake Shack.
For dessert we went to Crumbl.
Daisy took our picture.
Then she got super serious and started directing our poses.
She's so good at it!
Another customer in the store caught the action behind the scenes and texted the photo to Allie. Too cute.
The next morning was Mother's Day and Allie treated us to a homemade breakfast. Delicious!
Zula being her adorable self.
I'm so lucky to have spent the past 2 Mother's Days with my mom!
Daisy's oopsie selfie hehe.
After church we gave the tortoises a bath.
Then we walked to the corner gas station for treats. The Summer Edition of Red Bull is out - Juneberry. It's pretty good! I like it!
Walking home in the 100 degree heat.
More pool time.
For dinner Tate made Traeger pulled pork sandwiches, corn on the cob, and broccoli salad. All yum!
And then more pool time of course!
Mickey napping with Malm. Her room was so hot. I looked up and the vent was closed. We opened it. Problem solved :)
That night we went to the movie theater to see Love Again.
It was soooooo good! Definitely buying it.
The next morning Daisy and I played games and ate cereal.
Daisy & Jude arranged M&Ms into rainbow order. They're my people :)
Strawberry girls.
We went back to The Shops at Crystals to get Allie a 30th birthday present.
I wanted to check out the spring exhibit at The Bellagio and we took a super convenient tram from the roof over there.
Chocolate fountain.
Oh wow!!!
Soooo beautiful!!
Chihuly glass ceiling.
Lovelovelove.
Then we made our way back to the car and back to Allie's house. The perfect little shopping & exploring trip.
We spent lots of time on this super comfortable couch.
In the afternoon we had to take my mom back to the airport so Daisy snapped a few more pics of the girls.
And told us how to pose of course :)
Allie and I went to Bottiglia for dinner - I'd been looking forward to it for months! They didn't have what I usually get anymore, bummer, but they did have something very similar which was also super tasty so all is well.
I woke up at 4:30am the next morning to catch my 6:20am flight home.
I spy my house!
It was a weekend with my mom & sister that I'll never ever forget!
Love you Malm & Allie! So proud of my mom for her complete transformation and Allie for being the most hard working woman I know! Can't wait to see you all again for the 4th of July!
