Hello friends, Heidi Lewis here and Valentine's Day is just under a week away! Love comes in all shapes and sizes so today I'm sharing a pet-themed Valentine's layout using Paige's Love Stitching Letters from the 12 Love Cut Files and her Splendid collection.
To make this layout, cut 0.5 inch squares from a variety of scrap papers. I used 31 squares from the B-side of Paper 1, 8 squares from plain black cardstock, 10 squares from Paper 18, 60 squares from plain white cardstock, 45 squares from the B-side of Paper 9, and 30 squares from Paper 10. Using my Cricut to cut all the squares was a HUGE timesaver, but you could also use a paper punch or trimmer if you don't have a cutting machine. Keep in mind a cutting machine or paper punch will make your squares more uniform which makes it easier to piece together this design. Using Paper 18 as the background, arrange the colored squares into a cat or any design of your choice. Pinterest has hundreds of examples of pixel art which you can use as patterns for paper piecing or you can always create your own! Whatever design you choose, start from the bottom and glue one row down at a time. Once finished, sew zig-zag lines along the lines of squares - this will give your paper-piecing a quilted look! Next, cut out the words LOVE from Paper 12 and stitch the letters with a chain-link stitch. Arrange the words on the page and add (1) 2.75-inch square photo and (1) 2-inch square photo. Embellish with Epoxy Stickers, Layered Bouquet Stickers, and Floral Die Cuts. My favorite finishing touch is the Flower Charm used to make the cat collar.
I hope you feel inspired by this layout to try out the paper-piecing technique or to make a Valentine's-themed project with your Splendid stash and Paige's 12 Love Cut Files!
