Hello creative friends! It’s Monique Lowe here with a sweet and spooky layout using Paige’s faBOOlous Tricks & Treats collection paired with the Bats Border from the 13 Halloween Cut Files and pretty sunset colors!
To begin, I cut the Bats Border from white cardstock and chose Paper 2 for my background. I had some mixed media in mind so I prepped the B-side with a coat of clear gesso. I then scrapped on a thin layer of white gesso in the area where I would be placing the cut file. This softened the black spotty pattern a little, allowing the mixed media and cut file to shine. Using a selection of Distress Oxides, I swiped them across the background then dabbed on some water to loosen the colors and blend them together. I added coordinating ink splatters and a few shimmery gray watercolor splashes. Once my mixed media was dry, I stuck the unbacked Bats Border directly onto the background. Instead of backing the cut file, I cut the bat inners from Paper 3, Paper 7, Paper 9, and Paper 11, placing them tone-on-tone on the background. I also cut some bats from vellum, placed a few on top of the colorful bats, and dotted some around the page for subtle interest. For a touch of texture, I added a single cross stitch to the center of each colorful bat. I backed my two black and white photos using Paper 12 and tucked them in amongst the bats. I added in a frame and tab from the Ephemera Die Cuts along with Cardstock Stickers and 12x12 Foam Stickers. The Puffy Phrase Thickers had the perfect title for my two contrasting photos – Sweet &Spooky! To finish off my layout, I distressed the right-hand side, rolled it inwards, and stapled it in place. I added a strip of Paper 4 behind this for a little peek at this contrasting black paper. Thank you so much for stopping by to have a look at my new layout using Tricks & Treats collection and the Bats Border from the 13 Halloween Cut Files! I hope something you have seen inspires you to scrap those sweet & spooky memories too! Happy Scrapping Friends!
